In case anyone else grew up as a catalog kid or also enjoys digging through old advertisements, I though I'd share this site I found featuring Christmas "Wish Books" through the second half of the twentieth century. Wish Book Web
Typically I just enjoy the images, but I'm really finding the prices interesting. Technology particularly has remained somewhat steady in price for decades if not gone down, without accounting for inflation. Many clothing items haven't seen a strong increase either. Instead we notice a change in what portion of income goes towards what.

Computers have definitely gotten less expensive over time as the years went on. Back in the 80s, most computers could run you thousands of dollars, and they were generally perceived to be for the middle-class. Over time, we've seen the rise of laptops, as well as cheaper manufacturing so computers can be sold to people for less money. Problem is, many of these cheap computers AREN'T very good. Chromebooks are the ultimate example as they can hardly do jackshit, and from what I've heard, many of them break easily.
