I feel like Macy's is somewhat still of a classy store to me, especially how they sell perfume and formal men's and women's clothing.
I still go there occasionally even as a child, so I would like to think they are somewhat relevant today unless I'm wrong about this.

Macy's I think has the potential to "make it". I read somewhere that they are the biggest online clothing vendor behind Amazon, and their physical stores serving as a return center makes that believable to me. I went into Macy's and JCP today for the first time in a year and a half and found them both a bit depressing in ways, but not too hopeless overall. Both are carrying noticeably less products, though going by the amount that can end up in clearance, this may not be a bad move. However, they must also consider giving customers a reason to come into the store, so having enough sizes in what they do carry, dressing rooms and testers available, etc. are something they need to stay mindful of. I have to give the edge to Macy's because of the better brand selection and fragrance/cosmetic department, without prices being significantly higher. The weakness I see in JCP is that their product quality feels more on par with Target with only a slightly enhanced shopping experience, yet less of a convenience factor.
