I remember in late 2018, not giving 2019 a thought. I wanted to be 20 years old forever and never turn 21 because I know I would get pressured to drink and gamble which I have no interest in doing. I also do not go clubbing. I assumed that 2019 would be a bland and boring year like 2017 and 2018 were.
Once 2019 kicked off, I had an amazing kick ass year! 2019’s vibe is fresh, exciting and newer than 2017 and 2018. I noticed a change in the air that spring when people starting making Tik Toks and listening to Bilie Eilish on their AirPods. TikTok, AirPods and Bilie Eilish all blew up in 2019. I recall Game of Thrones (Many were disappointed by the ending, but I never cared for the show.) and a bunch of 2010s franchises going off air. In many ways I see most of 2019 as a proto early 2020s year had COVID not happened in 2020. Early 2019 felt like an improved 2017 to 2018 and the last pure late 2010s phase. I know pop culturally we are barely removed from then, but I miss my life in that year.
I took film photography and modeled that spring semester. I even went on a field trip with that class which was lit. We took the light rail. I had fun in Calculus 3 with the people I met. I am still friends with people from those classes. We were going to ditch class once lol.
My 21st birthday was a blast. It rained that day which made it even more special and memorable. I still hung with friends and enjoyed my birthday gifts! I received photography and graphic design software, a new robe, LIFX color changing bulb, Nintendo Switch, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Party and LA Noire. I celebrated that whole summer with friends and family even while doing summer school lol.
That fall my work had Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas parties and potlucks. I worked all of 2019 except summer at my community college math lab and did part time tutoring in another math class that fall. That was the last semester of any GE or math I would take.
Sorry this post is everywhere, but 2019 ended up being the best year of my whole life so far. I want to make a point and say that going into a year with no expectations and having an awesome year is better than hyping up a year and having it suck. I feel like 2019 will be looked at like 1999 or 2000 in the future.
You feel the same or not?

2019 was a good year. It felt exciting and it felt like a farewell year. Underrated for sure.

I wasted 2019 trying to get myself into a better situation for 2020, not knowing the world as we knew it was about to end.
Because of that, I'm bitter about 2019 and will never be nostalgic for it.

I kind of look at 2019 like Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Even if there are things to like about it, I simply cannot enjoy it anymore because I know how awful the next two installments in the series are.

2019 was relatively decent for me following a string of very rocky and disasterous years that i'd never ever want to relive again. Mainly because of personal reasons but objectively there are some things to be glad about like obnoxious marvel movies and star wars sequels coming to an end, great games coming out and political tensions dying down a little. I get oddly nostalgic about it from time to time like playing mortal kombat 11 with my sisters and checking google every day for devil may cry 5 news. It's like the universe was saying "enjoy this year because from here on out things are going to get rocky and life won't go back to the way it was before". Lo and behold, COVID, lockdowns, recession, riots, WW3 threats, geopolitical superpower tensions, vaccine passports, etc etc.

2019 by default now has that rafters 2010s year vibe, but only because of what happened afterwards.
Not going to like 2019 was good and bad for me personally, so I am mixed on it.

2019 is forgettable asf to me. Idk. I need to do more research on that year or something. All I remember from that year is Roddy Rich and Pokemon Sword/Shield.

The year of Bilie Eilish and Lil Nas X “Old Town Road.” 2019 was weird. At the time, I made a comment as it was in progress that the year felt too boring lol

At the time, I made a comment as it was in progress that the year felt too boring lol That was when I noticed a transition beginning. Yeah 2019 felt long in the tooth culturally lol. How? It was the most transformative year for pop culture since 2016-2017
