I consider this era(October 2012 - March 2013) to be the latest to have a truly dated and removed atmosphere from today. 2013/14 feels dated but a decent amount of elements of this period are still around. Despite 2012/13 having mid 2010s incoming, the overall era just feels so disconnected from today.
-8th generation gaming hasn't truly started yet. Yes, there was the Wii U but it was a failure to begin with. -iPhone retained it's skeuomorphic look until Sept. 2013. -The last serious period to get away with having Blackberry phones and slider phones. -The so called "SJW" were mostly contained in certain spaces and not influencing pop culture as a whole. -The 2012 election wasn't as divisive compared to 2016 and 2020. -Electropop was way more massive and present than it was in 2013/14. -Scene and swoopy hair was still popular with guys, even though quiffs are rising. -Last time when memes were in it's classic era. -Facebook was still teen-oriented before boomers took over a few years later. -Instagram was just a simple photo-sharing app way before influencers became a thing. -Some Blockbusters were still open until November 2013 when they announced all stores will be shutdown. -Netflix didn't release original shows until Feb.2013 but it didn't get popular right away. It got massive around mid 2013. -Vine was also released in Jan. 2013 but ditto with the above point. -A lot of the fashion trends this period is subjected to ridicule nowadays. -Last predominant late millennial period.

Still think 2011 is the last dated period cause smartphones weren't truly established by then I would say by late 2011 they feel established depending on where you live. Even smartphones from 2013 feel dated.

Still think 2011 is the last dated period cause smartphones weren't truly established by then I would say by late 2011 they feel established depending on where you live. Even smartphones from 2013 feel dated. Windows Phone is one noteworthy example. It never caught on but was supposed to be a competitor to iOS and Android and was actually the inspiration behind Windows 8. Needless to say, if you thought Windows 8 was a failure, Windows Phone is even sadder. At least it’s not as bad as Microsoft’s OTHER 2010 smartphone-related flop, the Microsoft Kin:

all of 2013 feels dated. 2014-2017 semi-dated. 2018-2019 not dated, but different from today.

Tik Tok being one of the things that make it "not dated", music from 2019 also doesn't sound dated, but a lot of it would sound out of place today (think "High Hopes", "I Don't Care", "Senorita"). Billie Eilish is definitely not as popular as she was in 2019, and bedroom pop as a whole is on the decline in favour of more poppy music. One example is Olivia Rodrigo, who changed her whole style since "Drivers License".

I would say 2009-2010 feels mostly dated, 2008-2009 fully dated and but only certain aspects of 2011-2013 feel dated.

I guess that lines up perfectly because 2008-2009 is the last cultural 2000s year despite having many 2010s influences. 2009-2010 is the first cultural 2010s year, but still has many 2000s influences.

I still think 2010, especially early-mid 2010, is the last time to truly feel like “another world”.
