IMO there are certain 2021 pop songs that would sound a bit out of place in 2017 and 2018. “good 4 u” by Olivia Rodrigo and “Kiss Me” by Doja Cat come to mind. But if Olivia Rodrigo released Drivers License in 2018, I wouldn’t think it would sound out of place at all. Good 4 u wouldn't happen in 2019 either. We weren't fully ready for a number 1 pop rock song, not in the year of bedroom pop and novelty rap

Olivia Rodrigo’s “Driver’s License” would not sound out of place in the late 2010s at all. I think her debut album is transitional. “Sour” album does not sound like it strictly belongs to any era. Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U” sounds early 2020s. Ironic that g4u sounds "early 2020s" because it sounds like the 2000s lol
