Lots of hip hop music in 1998-2000 still had a rough and raw 1995/mid 90s/wu tang atmosphere or base or vibe, sometimes with just minor difference and poppier elements or more repetitive or exaggerated or commercialized aspects that were more prevalent in the late 90s and Y2K era. He definately had more songs and contributed to sound with songs like these within that time: A 1995 song that can never pass as 1998-2000 song Another out of dozens of 1993-1995 songs that can pass for something from late 1997/98 to 2000ish.

Born Slippy - Underworld 1995 can pass for anything from 1997-2001:

This is a song that could pass imo
Released in 1996, sounds 2000.
Released in 1995, sounds 90s but the beat sounds like a basis of 2013-2015 DJ Mustard style beats.

This song is one of the strangest big hits of the early 90s. Not only a huge hit in the US (topping the Billboard), but also pretty big throughout mainland Europe. To me it oddly sounds like what if a late 2010s song was made in the early 90s. The super processed sad boi vocals drenched in a ton of echo are very reminiscent of the autotuned emo SoundCloud stuff. Everything is made on a cheap bedroom synth, and the drumbeat even does a triplet rhythm in a very similar way to a trapbeat. Really weird song

Released:1968 Sounds:1982
Some of the elements could pass as a new wave song.
