I am a computer science major. I would say internet, cyber or web security, information technology, artificial intelligence and virtual reality are hot careers with computer science majors.
Back in 2016, I was a cringe 17 to 18 year old. I remember wanting to be a programmer or software developer. One of my college professors said that being a programmer was hot back in 2001, but no longer today.
I have since changed my mind. Honestly programming bores me. Maybe it could be the classes I took. I also do not have any interesting ideas as to what software to create because I feel like everything has been done before. Now technology feels like updates of existing technology. Virtual reality and artificial intelligence seem exciting.
I want to go into internet, cyber or web security.

I'm not going to be helpful but, I can really relate to your post. I did computing in college because, I wanted to be a programmer or game developer. Found out that game developing is a terrible career choice and programming is really boring.
