I would have to say 2015 which is 5 to 6 years ago or 2016 which is 4 to 5 years ago. 2016, even 2019 feels like it lol

It really depends on the context.

2016. Music is about to sound dated at this point.

It really depends on the context. I do not mean culturally speaking, but technically speaking. I’m not sure what you mean by this. Like I said, it entirely depends on the context. Like when talking history, “many years ago” could mean sometime in the early 20th century, maybe even older, but when talking about technology “many years ago” could mean only 20 years ago.

I mean let’s say an event happened in a person’s life back in 2016, would that be considered many years ago? I’d say it really depends on how old the person was, because someone who was 8 years old in 2016 is gonna feel like it was much longer ago than someone who was 50. I don’t think you’ll find a lot of middle-aged people that will say “Many years ago” talking about 2016.

“Many years ago” to me is like 2005. Im 22 now and was 6 in 2005 so it feels like a whole different world to me. But like many others have said, it depends on the context or the age of the person.
Now generally speaking, I would say this:
A while ago: 2010-2017
A long time ago: 1980s-2000s
Many years ago: pre-1980s

For me, “many years ago” in terms of my personal life would be 2007-2015. 2016-2018 were a “few years ago”, and 2019 was a couple years ago.

2019 is still mostly the same as today even with all the modifications since then. Late 2009 to early 2013 is the most recent period to be considered many years ago, mid 2013 to mid 2015 is getting closer but not there yet imo.

It's a really vague question, but my pick would be 2010.
People were gradually transitioning their flip phones, sliders, and their Blackberries to early Android and iOS smartphones, electropop and club music were everywhere (Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, etc), and 1080p HDTVs were becoming more affordable and widely available.
Politics at the time was really only beginning to materialize into the era that we know of today with the remnants of the Great Recession, the Tea Party, and the Affordable Care Act showdown between Democrats and Republicans.
