2006 in Video Games - Dark & Digital Dimension
By 2006 the 6th generation was showing it's age, the xbox 360 had been out for a few months adding to this. We were all set for the hype of the Playstation 3 and Wii systems, kicking off the 7th generation fully. I would be lying to say hype levels weren't at 10000% 2006 is a unique video game year in which it feels "classic" and then "modern" as the year finishes out. 2006 is when games wanted to go for a more realistic look. Hues of browns, beiges and even greys dominated newer titles at the time.

No wonder most of 2006 is regarded as classic and mid 2000s, while the late part is regarded as modern or futuristic late 2000s. 2006 definitely paved the way for online gaming. Late 2006 seems semi-modern compared to most of 2006 and back. 100% I got xbox live in 2006 actually and I noticed online gaming was WAY more popular than it had been in 2004 and even 2005

No more going to friend's houses to play video games together as much anymore. I think PS3 also supported backwards compatibility, unlike the PS2, so people could relive the 1990s PS1 games if they wanted to on the PS3. I assume 2006 or 2007 is when games started becoming more about first-person shooting. 2006 was great for Game Cube and Nintendo DS which is all I ever played in that year. yeah 2006 is when FPS really began to take over, you had some of it in the mid 2000s with HALO 2 and Socom but it was not until 2006 where it was clear where things were headed.

Always hated the wii, the graphics were the same as Gamecube and offered nothing new other than motion control (which the novelty wore off quick)
