What do you think the Top 5 or Top 10 highest charting songs of 2021 will be?
My prediction (might not be in this order but these are the songs I think will be in it):
1. Dua Lipa ft. DaBaby - Levitating 2. 24kGoldn ft. iann dior - Mood 3. Olivia Rodrigo - Good 4 U 4. Doja Cat ft. SZA - Kiss Me More 5. Lil Nas X - Montero (Call Me By Your Name) 6. The Weeknd ft. Ariana Grande - Save Your Tears 7. BTS - Butter 8. Olivia Rodrigo - Drivers License 9. Silk Sonic - Leave The Door Open 10. Cardi B - Up

1. Levitating by Dua Lipa 2. Mood by 24kGolden 3. Blinding Lights by The Weeknd 4. Drivers License by Olivia Rodrigo 5. Save Your Tears by The Weeknd 6. Peaches - Justin Bieber 7. Positions - Ariana Grande 8. Kiss Me More by Doja Cat 9. Good 4 U - Olivia Rodrigo 10. Montero (Call Me By Your Name) - Lil Nas X

Levitating will be 1 for sure.
Btw, i remember back in early 2021 mood was such a big hit, and then people just kinda stopped talking about it... I thought it was going to be this year's old town road

I thought it was going to be this year's old town road well Mood was big in both late 2020/early 2021 so it will still be pretty high on the 2021 Year-End list.

Looks like "Levitating" will be number 1 on the year end list, even though it never reached number 1 on the Hot 100 itself.
Last time this happened was... 2001 with "Hanging By a Moment". Exactly 20 years ago!

I think Mood will be the number one song of 2021, unlike everyone else who is predicting Levitating. I don't know the metrics they use to determine it perhaps you can know for sure already. But I'm predicting Mood. I was right last year of Blinding Lights and Circles being the top 2 songs of 2020. Let's see if end up being right this year.

Mood will be top 5 at best, I can already assure you that. Its chart run was weakened by the cutoff in November 2020 that counts for this year's chart. The positions on the year end are calculated by points, and the more a song has sales, streaming, radio and longevity on the chart, the more points it has. So far Levitating is overwhelming on top, with Save Your Tears closely following.

It's here!
Yep, as predicted "Levitating" is the number 1 song of the year! Here's the top 10 for anyone curious:
1. Dua Lipa ft. DaBaby - "Levitating" 2. TheWeeknd ft. Ariana Grande - "Save Your Tears (Remix)" 3. TheWeeknd - "Blinding Lights" 4. 24kGoldn ft. Iann Dior - "Mood" 5. Olivia Rodrigo - "Good 4 U" 6. Doja Cat ft. SZA - "Kiss Me More" 7. Silk Sonic - "Leave the Door Open" 8. Olivia Rodrigo - "Driver License" 9. Lil Nas X - "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" 10. Justin Bieber ft. Daniel Caesar & Giveon - "Peaches"
This is thus the first time since 2001 that a song becomes the number 1 Billboard song of a year-end without reaching number 1 on a weekly chart. The longevity of BL is also absolutely mind-boggling.

I liked the 2020 Top 5 better than this year's but this year's 6-10 is better than 2020's IMO. 2020's Top 5 was super tight and IMO beats any year in the past decade, but most of its 6-10 are super forgettable. Has any other song ever landed in the Top 5 twice? I know "Closer" was in the Top 10 for both 2016 and 2017.

5 out of the top 10 songs are throwback songs 🤡 and 4 out of the Top 5 ☠️ I really hope 2021 is the peak of this throwback craze and it calms down a lot next year lol.

Wow Blinding Lights was number 3 this year? Last year it was number 1. That's never happened in history that a song was still in the top 3 a year after. Plus The Weeknd also has another hit (Save Your Tears) at number 2... That's crazy. This is really was the big peak year for The Weeknd. I haven't seen anyone get this much success. I'm not a fan of The Weeknd himself but I do think it's neat a Canadian got this much success.
You guys were right about Levitating. And Mood came in at number 4.
If you listen to the whole top 100 countdown on YouTube, you could see how far removed 2021 is from the late 2010s sound. You barely heard any trap on the Billboard Hot 100 this year. I was right that 2021 would bring the death of trap. It's finally gone... Trap has finally died. That feels so nice we don't have to hear that garbage sound anymore.
The songs on the charts all scream early 2020s with very little late 2010s influences. It's a nice change. Though 2020 was still better overall for music than 2021. Still, early 2020s popular music despite how unoriginal it is is actually very good and nice breath of fresh air from the late 2010s.
Another thing I've noticed is way more ROCK! Rock is making a comeback. I hope this trend continues into the mid 2020s at least as a side genre. You saw songs like Begging and that song from Machine Gun Kelley top the year end charts this year. And one of Billie Elish's songs on the char had a rock-like sound to it. Plus Olivia Rodrigo's punk sound in good for u and Kid Laori's Without You and the song Mood as well.
Olivia Rodrigo was very successful this year as well. She has at least 3 songs that are all in the top 20. Music is finally different from the late 2010s. Not original still, this isn't decade defining and we've heard these genres be popular in the past, but very different from the late 2010s at least.
