It's fall and time for a new type of thread to start of the season. This is a POPEDIA John Titor exclusive. The top 20 pop punk videos of all time !!!
I will go in depth into why each one made the cut. So sit back, grab a drink and enjoy the ride !!!
20) - GREEN DAY - When I come around
This video was constantly played on MTV & The Box in the 90s, kind of a slice of life video.
The video comes off the heels of the mega powerful DOOKIE album. A story of love and
and just chilling with ya friends ! MTV's Ultimate Albums: Dookie special credited the simple
horizontally-striped sweater worn by Armstrong in the video for starting a fashion trend of similar
sweaters ! YOU KNOW THE ONE With the STRIPE !
19 ) JIMMY EAT WORLD – THE MIDDLE
The video for Jimmy Eat World’s outsider anthem ‘The Middle’ sees the band perform at a sweaty, underdressed party
straight out of an American Pie movie. Who can forget when this aired on MTV & MTV 2 in 2001 !
18) My Chemical Romance - Welcome To The Black Parade
The apex of emo at the time, a mix of Queen vocals and a hint of the Beatles !
When you think of EMO this is usually in the list of music videos you think of.
17) SUM 41 – IN TOO DEEP
The music video that popularized singing in empty swimming pools !
Need I say more
16) BLINK 182 – ALL THE SMALL THINGS
Would be criminal to not include the music video on the list, it is a parody of everyone
from Nsync to backstreet and even Britney herself ! A pure classic that topped the TRL
charts for many weeks
15 ) Simple Plan - I'd Do Anything
The music video for the song revolves around kids trying to get into a Simple Plan concert by first impressing the doorman.
Mark Hoppus of Blink 182 is also featured in the video, It's yellow golden visuals were a constant on MTV and MTV 2 in the day !
14) Blink 182 - First Date
One of my personal favorites from 2001, the music video takes place in the 1970s
A shot from the video, where DeLonge's character Boomer mouths the phrase "what the f*ck", became
a popular GIF online in the late 2010s ( yupp this is where it came from !)
13) PANIC! AT THE DISCO – I WRITE SINS NOT TRAGEDIES
Panic! At the Disco elevated pop punk and emo with high-concept, theatrical songs and videos, and it all started with ‘I Write Sins Not Tragedies’,
in which Brendon Urie plays a ringleader at a circus-themed wedding of freaks, disrupting everything and making his band immediately unforgettable.
MTV did overplay this song..but I can't omit it from the list because of how Iconic it was.
12) The All-American Rejects - Dirty Little Secret
The video features a montage of various people holding up postcards sharing their "dirty little secrets" while the band perform the song in an abandoned warehouse with the cards enlarged and displayed behind them in a backdrop. No one can forget seeing this video air on MTV at the time. It was very iconic.
11) PARAMORE – PRESSURE
In the video for ‘Pressure’, Paramore explore various kinds of pressure and perform in a tiny room while the, uh, pressure builds.
This video was played a ton on Fuse at the time ( MTV seemed to neglect it at the time) the video can not be ignored for it kicking
off the Scene boom of the late 2000s.
10 ) Fall Out Boy - Sugar, We're Goin Down
We all remember when this video popped off. The video establishes the life of a socially outcast boy with antlers (played by Donald Cumming of The Virgins),
and his feelings for a neighborhood girl. MTV 2 played the F out of this video.
9 ) Blink-182 - Always
The video is displayed as three horizontal panels, the first time this has ever been done in
ANY MUSIC VIDEO and to my knowledge it hasn't been done since. Video was played constantly
on MTV and was one of the first videos I watched on Yahoo! Launch (pre youtube)
8) GOOD CHARLOTTE – THE ANTHEM/I JUST WANNA LIVE
A video where the band dresses up in various food outfits while getting into hijinx, who can forget this ? !
7) AVRIL LAVIGNE – SK8ER BOI
Let me just say when this video dropped in HS girls were immediately wearing the whole neck tie thing. This video is what kick started her career.
Complicated was good but this video was really put the stamp that she was a star.
6) Fall Out Boy - Dance Dance
The music video shows the members of the band performing at a homecoming dance, and simultaneously attending as nerdier
versions of themselves, overcoming the persecutions of more popular students. This video is the height of Fall out boy. The video
had to be retired on MTV's TRL because of how many times it stayed on the countdown !!
5) My Chemical Romance - I'm Not Okay
The music video that kicked off the whole Emo movement of Late 2004. Not much needs to be said
about this...you already know the drill.
3) Sum 41 - Fat Lip
This video IS POP PUNK LMAO, from everything from skateboards, mosh pits and even a random girl
shaving her head. The song topped MTV's TRL and MuchMusic's MuchMusic Countdown in the summer of 2001.
This video confused the hell out of me when it aired at the start because of the beatboxing lol I will NEVER
forget this video and literally is the video that got me INTO POP PUNK PERIOD !!
2) Goldfinger - Here In Your Bedroom
A mix of pop punk & ska punk, this video was pretty addictive when it first aired in 96. For those who don't know this man he
is the producer behind Avril,Good Charlotte and even Ashlee Simpson! Goldfinger wasn't just pivotal to Pop Punk but SKA as well !
Even tho I was not into pop punk or ska back in 96 I DO remember this video being played on the BOX very often.
1) GREEN DAY - AMERICAN IDIOT
If I have to explain why this is 1# then go read Pop punk wikipedia please lol
