I always felt that the very late 10s should have been more changeful in terms of tech, trends, aesthetics, and sort of more instrumental in laying the ground for a new era, and feeling more distant the the previous.
What are some things you feel should have already happened?

What are some things you feel should have already happened? I think it could have had things played out a little differently, but in our timeline, boomers took over social media around 2016 and have been driving the culture ever since. That's why the late '10s and early '20s are what they are.

Sometimes it takes a while to see the change that happens. We are only 2 years removed from the late 2010s. I’d revisit this question in like 5-10 years.

Late 2010s were changeful you just aren't looking close enough, ton of changes that led us to where we are now lmao
Late 2016 - Donald Trump becomes President 2017 - 2018 - 2000s fashions start getting more popular, emo rap, Nintendo Switch, Mee Too movement, Star Wars backlash, Hipster decline, Cardi B, Death of Chester B, 2019 - Pop Punk slowly enters mainstream ( no hits on the radio yet) End of Marvel Cinematic Universe part 1 , end of Game of Thrones, Disney Plus, E boy, E girl ( emo is back), Tik Tok, Birth of Covid-19, end of Star Wars sequel trilogy,
Not as changeful as the late 2000s but still close, how can you even say the late 2010s were not changeful

It's the Early 2020s where the change was forced to stop/slow down for obvious reasons, so 2017 doesn't feel as far away in 2021 as 2015 did in 2019.

If i recall it well people still despised anything 00s back then. And ofc covid already existed in 2019 but not one knew about it until early 2020

Not as changeful as the late 2000s but still close, how can you even say the late 2010s were not changeful Yeah I'm aware of these, I would still say still overall weren’t changeful enough in terms of completely erasing the old and starting a completely new aesthetic, world etc completely new from earlier is more what I mean. Especially looking at 2018 and 2019 more than 16- to 17/18, mentioned the very late 2010s. I get your points, but I would still say in those years weren't distinct enough, as they should have been imo. Also the trump thing didn't really change the core fabric of pop culture. It was kind of like this odd flash in the pan that had some pop cultural influence but not really the base or completely changing the foundation. Obama had more change because it led to social change, whereas trump was more of a failed attempt, in the opposite way, ultimately the liberal social change still stood strong even in the trump era, we just got more trump coverage, neckbeards at rallies and MAGA boomers, some more normalization of right wing talking points and alt right social media, pop culture was mostly the same as earlier with some changes. Every decade prior to the 2010s had a richer and more varied set of changes that felt more distinct when it came to a new era at the end of the decade. Late 2016-mid 2018 felt like a modified version of the mid 2010s with some differences, and trump. 2018 and 2019 felt like empty years and unoriginal overall, even though there were a few things as you mentioned, some of which are starting to expand in this decade. I just felt, 2018 and 2019, should have been more much more instrumental in setting an entirely new era, completely different than before and giving us more to work with. I would have loved to see completely radical 360 degree tech, fashion, music and design trend changes, a lot more than what happened.
