hate to sound like a broken record but its pop punk Well that sucks. I just want fresh and new. Songs like "Mood", "Kiss Me More", "Stay", are what define Early 2020s music to me... 80s nostalgia is just long in the tooth as it is, and Pop Punk is still 2000s nostalgia. They can be part of Early 2020s music, but for them to "define" it sucks IMO.

Right? 80s nostalgia has been big since the 2000s and it was absolutely huge in the 10s, all these synthpop songs we're getting in 2021 feel so long in the 🦷

I think Dua Lipas recent material are not just throwbacks but she has her own flavor and puts a modern twist in them. She also combines different time periods instead of one to make a unique sound. That’s why she is best in the recent throwback trend

Dua Lipa's latest album strands quite a broad range from disco to new wave to still modern feeling pop (funktronica anyone?). So I won't call her latest album fully "80s nostalgia".
Besides the Week-end I can't really think of an artist big right now who goes fully 80s to be honest. So I don't think the OP's song is a good representation at all.

I still believe this. The Weeknd really defined this era.

I still believe this. The Weeknd really defined this era. Dawn FM seems to be flopping, hopefully we don't have to hear his whiny nasal voice ever again

In fact, it's so bad and overshadowed that all of his newest singles are currently doing worse than "Save Your Tears" which was released 2 (!) years ago.
