I was born in the late 80s so I have 0 memory of this but the late 80s must have felt like crap when it first started. The recession and everything falling apart lol
The only positives are the influx of 90s culture coming in such as The Simpsons,Married with Children, Full House, Sega and Game boy. I myself like the late 80s better...however if I was living it it seems like it would be a drag compared to the mid 80s era that preceded it.
The only thing remotely 80s energy I remember is either 90 or 91 , Small Wonder and Alf reruns on NBC as well as TMNT. Oh and Beetlejuice toys everywhere.

TMNT mania, Simpsons mania, Mario mania, robocop, beetlejuice toys were the best ever. It was kind of an unofficial start to the 90s. The nes had some of the best games out super mario bros 3, ninja gaiden, castlevania 3, ducktales, and fester's quest, gameboy, TG16 and genesis were still a novetly.. Power glove was a let down but after revisiting it it actually works with certain games once you figure it out. Everyday radio pop music was better than most of the 80s prior. 90s fashion like curtained hair and loose fitting clothing, even among young kids, was starting to co-exist with late 80s fashion. Didn't really fully experience all of the mid 80s, since I was a bit too young, mostly the end of them but games were staler, since atari wasn't cool and was almost dead and not everyone had a nes even in 1987 even though arcades were improving and way ahead of consoles. Many arcade machines looked like 16 bit console games in 1985. Cartoons were a bit medicore and boring tbh, they feel like long toy commericals aka transformers and gi joe, though thundercats had some good animation and fads like garbage pail kids cards and madballs were also pretty original for the era. The best things about the mid 80s is classic pop, thrash metal, punk and skateboarding culture and old school computer games for the apple and commodore 64, and classic films (neverending story, goonies, back to the future, the last starfighter etc) you had to be at least born in the mid to late 70s to have experienced them propely.

They seemed cheesy as hell to be personally, I remember seeing so much poofy 80s hair then. I do remember when Super Mario 3 dropped, so it had been 1990 of my earliest memory.

Was great if you were a kid or a teen. Much less so if you were an adult.

Was great if you were a kid or a teen. Much less so if you were an adult. I think it was a great time for subcultures, kind of like the starting point of everything that lasted to the end of the middle 90s, so it was probably a interesting time at least from outsider's perspective to be 15-35 in this respect. You had everything from acid house, to early grunge and alternative rock, to death/black metal, to crust punk all being relatively new and exciting subc ultures. I would think you would have liked the club kid scene:
