It's actually quite similar to what rock was in 1991. It's only until Smells Like Teen Spirit came to the the scene at the very end of the year and changed the rock landscape shortly after.
The rap scene doesn't know what to do at this point .They seem to hit a creative bankruptcy and stopped pushing forward.

I think the pandemic has also caused stagnation across all genres. It will be interesting to see where hip-hop goes next though. The problem right now is that there's too many throwbacks. I actually like throwback songs in small doses but right now it's out of hand. I think once this throwback phase burns out, something new will emerge.

I think once this throwback phase burns out, something new will emerge. yeah I used to not hate throwback songs but they're so overdone nowadays I just roll my eyes even when an alright-sounding one comes out.
