No hate to the new user but all I gotta say is 2016 is not the same as 2021. Some similarities yes, but the exact same? Absolutely not.-The tropical house sound that was popular in 2016 was no longer the top sound in 2018 and was dead since then.
-2000s nostalgia was nowhere near the same level as it is now in 2021.
-Barack Obama was still president of the United States. Even if Trump won in 2016, he didn't enter office until January 2017.
-Baggy late 90s/Y2K fashion is all the rage now while 2016 had minimal, athleisure aesthetics.
-Memes in 2021 consists of Tiktok quotes, wojaks, OKbuddy style memes, Among Us.
-Tiktok has a wider impact on culture than Vine and Musically combined.

Obviously not... I thought that everything that was popular in 2016 is being currently mocked by teens and considered "cheugy"?

2016 and to a lesser extent the second half of 2015 is the beginning of the pop culture and general vibe that we're still in today. From around the time Trump got elected pop culture hasn't changed much since and still feels the same. Compare 2013 to 2017 songs and compare 2017 to 2021 songs. 2013 and 2017 are completely different. 2017 and 2021 are generally very similar with the major difference being less mumble rap and more throwback pop.
Politically COVID was a massive gamechanger but even there 2016 was the start of the heavy political divisiveness we see today and strong resurgence of the right with SJW backlash, BLM police brutality riots, Brexit being passed through and the infamous Trump election. The political situation in the early 20s is basically that but on steroids. Political division. Masker vs Anti masker. Vaxxer vs Anti vaxxer. Black lives matter vs Blue lives matter. Left vs Right. The whole politically incorrect politics thing also started with Trump back in 2016. Now you also have Biden which tries to emulate his informal, down to earth and politically incorrect swagger which is why he's said a lot of things that come off as outlandish like "You aint black if you don't vote for me". Boris Johnson also arguably fits in the same category(although not as controversial as the former two) who got elected at the end of 2019. People thought the 2016 debate was like a childish squabble but 2020 presidential debate turned out to be even more heated and petulant. 2016 changed politics in a massive way.

Haha nope, the difference is so obvious that it outweighs the remaining similarities.

Haha nope, the difference is so obvious that it outweighs the remaining similarities. Nightmare is not aware of pop culture, its like a Boomer saying the 2000s and the 90s are the same. Everyone reading this knows how 2016 was different. Almost everyone on the board can agree.

Again, still resorting to the same outliers again even when I show videos from different months of the year which shows the 50 biggest hits and each time only the same pop punk song made it onto the list with no others there. Like I mentioned like 10 times already only one pop punk song is a HIT this year. ONE, not two, not three, not half a dozen not a dozen. One. I mean, I like punk rock. I want it to be mainstream as much as you do. I was excited when I saw a pop punk song on the top 50 for the first time in years. I thought it was going to take off. But it didn't unfortunately and we can't change that even if we pretend as if it is popular. As for everything else. Yes, Biden is president. I never said 2021 was the same politically. I admitted numerous times before that 2020 was a gamechanger politically. It's the pop culture that is stagnant. Yes the PS5 is out but next gen hasn't properly taken off yet. We have only 3 next gen exclusives a year after the PS5 and new Xbox has come out. In October 2014 you had dozens of next gen exclusives. inFAMOUS Second Son, Knack, Killzone Shadow Fall, Driveclub, Alien Isolation, Assassins Creed Unity, Halo MCC, Sunset Overdrive, Ryse: Son of Rome, Killer Instinct, etc. With the current next gen consoles all we have is Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Demon Souls(A 1:1 remake of a 2009 game) and Returnal. Graphically we have seen very few instances of true next gen graphics. The only ones shown that look truly next gen is Horizon Forbidden West and Black Myth Wukong. On top of that, barely anyone has them due to the shortage of consoles because of COVID. We will truly enter the next generation of gaming once the new consoles become the norm and are more accessible to buy and next gen exclusives with next gen graphics become the norm and 8th gen consoles become obselete. Which I estimate to be anywhere between summer 2023 and summer 2024 since we're off to a slow start thanks to COVID.

Here is some more tweets about pop punk being main stream from the general public I am going to keep tweeting out mainstream news articles talking about how pop punk is mainstream I can go at this all day.

Yet you have no sources for proof that they are. However when I look up top hits of the year videos of several different months, only one pop punk song shows up on those lists.

2013 and 2017 are completely different. I think that's really over exaggerating the difference between 2013 and 2017. EDM was HUGE in both. Trap was way bigger in 2017, but it wasn't nonexistent in 2013 and was pretty popular back then too. 2021 shares Trap with 2017, but EDM has basically been out of style since 2019.

They're completely different universes dude. Like half the hits in 2013 were electropop and you didn't have that trop house/dancehall style weird production elements that you do in 2017(it was very rare at least). Pop besides Trap-mumble rap was non existant back then. It got really popular in 2017. You had a lot more retro style songs like "Treasure" and "Get lucky. Besides Electropop most of the other songs were minimalistic pop, 2017 pop is not minimalistic they all have those really weird and annoying EDM type production elements in them.

Sure similarities exist between 2016 and 2021. Late 2010s culturally and numerically started in late 2016 with Vine’s announced shut down, hipsters backlash, reboots taking off, election of Donald Trump, trap taking dominating music charts and more. Most of 2016 was still predominantly mid 2010s numerically and culturally with pop music and hipsters still going strong, Vine. The Nintendo Switch wasn’t around in 2016. TikTok wasn’t a thing in 2016 and neither were most popular music and fashion trends of today. I couldn’t picture Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U” charting in 2016. We still have late 2010s influences in 2021, but that does not mean 2016 is the exact same as 2021. 2016 and 2021 are in separate cultural eras. Tbh 2021 already feels early 2020s. Late 2010s culture is pretty much dead to me by now.

Most influences are still predominantly 2010s, 2020s identity hasn’t been fully formed, there still isn’t a strong enough era diving line between 2019, 2020 and 2021 despite some subtle changes in 19 and some more visible changes in latter 2020. Hipsters were past their peak and slowly fading by 2015-2016 even if undercuts and manbuns were still popular and present.
