When is it worth upgrading them or what motivates you to upgrade them?
Times I thought tech upgrades were worth it: - PS2 - Windows XP - Windows 7 - iPhone 5s (touch ID) - late 2016 MacBook Pro (touch ID) - iPhone Xs (face ID). I believe the iPhone X had issues or flopped which caused it to be discontinued quickly.

When my tech devices give up on me, or it's absolutely needed. Otherwise I'm almost never in a hurry to update. My desktop still runs Windows 7 lol

New Features...that is, back when I used to use flip phones.
Back during the days when people were using flip phones, it used to be that each newly-released cellphone had their own different new features (In addition to each of the newly-released flip phones having their own different new features, even each newly-released slider phone had their own different new features.). Now, during the days of smartphones and smartphones using either Android or iOS, all the newly-released cellphones out there basically have the same new features. It's sad.

When I can’t use em anymore because they got obsolete but they’re not retro cool yet to be interesting in that way.

Very little, I usually upgrade certain things when I really need to, or buy things for specific reasons. I have computers from the 80s and 90s and 2000s still in tact for collectors purposes.
I still have a computer running XP, a CRT TV for old gaming systems.
I don't like upgrading if I don't see the value and it happens too often. I don't see any point in upgrading after 2 years. I think 4-6 years should be the benchmark unless it's groundbreaking tech.

When my device slows down, I feel the need to upgrade, especially when there's an exciting new release.
As for TV's, I dont upgrade often unless they break down. I don't need the latest 8K screens, it's nice, but not necessary in my book.
The same could be said with laptops and desktops, I'd only upgrade when it slows down.
