The PS2 came out in late 2000, but took until late 2001 to take off. The first iPod came out in late 2001, but took until late 2004 to become commonplace. The PS3 came out in late 2006, but took until 2009 to become mainstream. The first AirPods came out in late 2016, but took until late 2018-early 2019 to catch on.
I’m also curious about how long new fashion, game, music, and other trends take to become mainstream.
Correct me on this, but Neptunes started gaining traction in late 2000, but didn’t become big until late 2001 with teen pop’s death and urban pop’s take over.

There is usually a catch up period that takes place before it becomes normal, the ps3 is different because the price was so high and games were ported so badly it stood on shelves until Sony made a cheaper slim ps3 ( also better ps3 cames started to come out in 2009) As for PS2, when it came out in October 2000 hardly anyone could even get a glimpse at one, not until Fall 2001 when more systems were being made, also there was a memory card shortage as well after the ps2 shortages ended. As for fashion the cycle is usually like this Stage 1 ) Radical designs show up on the runway Stage 2 ) A few celebs start rocking it Stage 3 ) Zara & H&m make their own versions of said runway Stage 4) People buy whatever Zara and H&m has thus making it mainstream Examples of this is Yeezy season by Kanye West As for Neptunes, they started gaining traction for the Jay-Z tracks they did, word spread and that sound became fresh, eventually Britney wanted them to work on her album. Note: During the 2000-2001 school year Jive Records wanted Nsync and Britney to have teen pop songs on the album and new " Neptunes" produced songs on the album in case the public's perception of music changed, and it did and thus the rest were Neptunes related singles. Girlfriend by Nsync did so badly that Jive records rushed to get Nelly on the track to give them a stimulus boost. There is a reason why Nsync's final album and Britney's self titled are bi polar.

Honestly the PS3 came out way too soon based on what you told me. The PS3 should've come out in November 2008 or at the turn of 2009 instead of November 2006. My sister and I were happy and content with playing the PS2 at the time. It was kind of hard for us to let go playing the PS2 because of how much we enjoyed playing it. My sister and I still played on the PS2 until 2011, when we switched to PS3. In 2011, gaming felt like it was already well into the 7th generation, maybe even starting to peak. Nsync's final album and Britney's self-titled album seem like the transition from the bubblegum and sugary Y2K era to the edgy and urban early 2000s. Somewhere on Wiki I read that backlash against Y2K era fashion already began in 2001, like stuff from the year before was seen as lame. :0 I'm guessing Timbaland took off in late 2006, but he had his own albums released since the late 1990s. I think it's safe to say most trends take around 2 to 3 years to catch on. I've noticed a lot of pop singers and rappers are hopping onto the pop punk trend in music now. I think that's already mainstream. I wonder if this would continue into 2023 and 2024 or if people will be ready for something new by then. I'm curious how people can tell if certain trends on their last legs, long in the tooth, stale, burnt out, dying or dead. Sometimes I can tell, but other times I can't. Around 2001 the backlash happened yeah, people still wore it but as getting seen as tacky. Also the state/location you are in matters as well. In general emo and scene fashion died during Summer 2009 but in other parts of the United States it held on because those areas were slow to trends. As for Pop Punk it's going to last until 2024 at most. There is only so much you can do with pop punk music where it all starts to sound the same. The next wave will be Late 2000s Red One Electropop and scene music as I predicted in the other threads.
