Post Malone and The Weeknd just released a new song together. This era is still going very strong. Covid and/or the effects of it is nowhere near over too.

The early 2020s barely started, so no way will the early 2020s end anytime soon. We're only in November 2021.

I don't see it ending until 2023 or 2024. Hopefully the next era feels more distinct from the late 10s.

Politically? Yes Pop culturally? Somewhat but still doesn't feel like a different world like the early 10s did back in the late 10s. Pop culture still feels similar to the late 10s. Not the same and there are some differences like more throwback pop but it still feels similar. I want that era to feel like a different world and for the 20s pop cultural identity to truly kick in.

I think COVID-19 (definitely the defining feature of the Early 2020s), will be declared by the WHO to stop being a pandemic sometime in 2023. We probably still have about a year and half to two years left of this.

People don't remember that the Late 10s were dominated by EDM pop, latin pop and emo trap. None of these dominate today, the only thing the early 20s really shares with the late 10s in terms of music is the mere existence of trap (which sounds a lot different) and bedroom pop (which is on its way out). TikTok is also undoubtedly a Early 20s thing, it came out in late 2018 and became huge by 2019, but it's peak is definitely about right now.

consequence.net/2021/05/pop-punk-back-tiktok-hip-hop/"op-punk has crept back onto the charts, and its latest takeover is well underway — without any live shows and long after the end of Warped Tour, a hallmark of the genre’s previous reign. In the past year, pop-punk has made its comeback, but with the help of some unlikely forces. The first of those forces are hip-hop crossovers, which have propelled pop-punk to the top of the charts. 24kGoldn and iann dior’s single, “Mood”, blended elements of pop-punk and hip-hop and went to No. 1. On the Alternative Airplay chart, All Time Low got their first No. 1 with their single “Monsters”, which featured hip-hop star blackbear. A remix featuring Demi Lovato also reached No. 18 on the Top 40. These weren’t the only pop-punk/hip hop crossovers to top the charts in the past year. Rapper-turned-rocker Machine Gun Kelly always had one foot in the rock scene, playing Warped Tour earlier in his career, but made the decision to lean into that side of his musical background by releasing a pop-punk album last year with the help of Blink-182 drummer and super-producer Travis Barker. Not only did it sound a lot like early 2000s pop-punk, with heavy influence from Blink-182, but it references bands like Jawbreaker, Operation Ivy, and My Chemical Romance. A deluxe track, which samples Fall Out Boy’s “Dance, Dance”, even features The Used’s Bert McCracken. The pivot paid off: Tickets to My Downfall went to No. 1."

Something tells me 2023-2024, but SPECIALLY 2024 will be extremely transformative years And 2024 is going to be election year too so....
