I get a vibe from 2015 to present movies that they have to push a certain political message or agenda. I feel as if they have a checklist of all the diverse groups they should portray in a positive manner. It they fail to do any of these things, then they face backlash, cancellation and risk offending people.

I think it's okay to do it, but not to force it.

A big issue is whenever virtue signaling and token characters for their own sake get in the way of quality storytelling. The Star Wars Sequel trilogy is one of the biggest examples of this.
Disney/Kathleen Kennedy could have achieved all the same diversity checkmarks yet made movies the fans would actually like.
One somewhat hidden aspect of this is that most American theatrical releases today are made with a global audience in mind, so in addition to being careful concerning the fragmentation of American society, they also have to consider global cultural differences. They have to make something that will be popular in the USA, Latin America, Europe, and China.

I think its good to be politically correct to a certain extent. I like the fact its not acceptable to have casual bigoted attitudes towards women, LGBT people and minorities and that translates into cinema and mass media, compared to earlier decades. It shouldn't be over the top, way too restrictive or the focus though. Movies like ghostbusters (2016) represent everything wrong about modern pc culture in media, the entire focus of the movies to depict ghostbusters as women for the sake it and that is the gimmick. In the modern star wars movies, especially the 3rd installment, the pc influence felt distracting and weakened the quality of the movie and this goes for other examples. It shouldn't be the focus on the film.
