Early '20s pop culture actually started before the pandemic. Billie Eilish, Tik Tok, Disney+, early '20s style retro pop, melodic trap, punk, The Mandelorean, etc. All of these were none existent or not as popular before April 2019. I can see early '20s pop culture started in spring 2019. Music in the late '10s had way more trap, way less pop, and was way less upbeat and more of a slower tempo. The aesthetic was darker.
This is why I think pop culture wouldn't change much if the pandemic didn't hit. Only you would see people dancing to the music in the clubs. The pop culture and feel of this era would still be the same even if the pandemic didn't happen. The pandemic only solidified the early '20s era and vibe. I can see now how the pandemic served as an end of a transition and the start of being fully immersed into the early '20s era. But the early '20s era actually began in spring of 2019 pop culturally and that's where the general transition started.
Basically the early 2020s would look like the fake early 2020s which was the era right before the pandemic hit, January - March 2020. All of the pop culture trends got popular in 2019 and still are popular today. That's what the early '20s era is about. Anyone who says it is the same as the late '10s doesn't follow pop culture trends closely enough. It is similar, as all adjacent eras have similarities, but certainly not the same. It is clearly a different era and we haven't even reached the peak yet. And with the pandemic attached to it, it feels quite literally like a completely different world compared to the late 2010s. All you would need to do is step outside or turn on the news to see that. It's crazy how a lot of people are still in denial about the massive changes we've had recently though. The shift of 2020 actually felt much more changeful/massive/eventful than the shift of 2008.

Totally legit new era changes/modifications, but I wouldn't consider them entire 360 degree era shift material, just changes with some impact.
There was some minor changes in late 2018 and 2019, making them feeling a bit separate from 15/16 to 17/18, along with ongoing trends and fadings of earlier years, like today. I don't think there was a reset of the past or a new era break off feeling in 2019, especially one felt by the average person.
I would say this past year fall 2020 to fall 2021, has made whatever changes pop out a bit more, but we still aren't there imo.

I agree. 2020 and 2021 had the changes pop out more, but we’re not in full force 2020s culture yet. I also noticed slight changes in late 2018 and 2019, including the ones Slim95 mentioned. To add to his list, AirPods took off around late 2018 and early 2019, long-running 2010s shows like Game of Thrones ended. More long-running 2010s shows ended in 2020 and 2021. But those changes aren’t enough to fully divorce us from the late 2010s. Honestly all of 2019 through February 2020 felt exactly like late 2018 to me. I’m starting to think late 2018 through February 2020 was the true, pure late 2010s period, distinct enough from the mid and core 2010s. March 2020 to present feels the same, but still similar to late 2018 through February 2020.

2019 felt like a typical yearly change. 2018 had a much more noticeable change in culture and I wouldn't consider that a full cultural shift either. Trap rap peaked in 2019 which is a very distinctly late 10s thing:

Trap rap peaked in 2019 which is a very distinctly late 10s thing: A lot of those songs on that chart were actually released in 2018. Which is why it sounds very late 2010s. Keep in mind early 2019 was very late 2010s too. The changes really began spring/summer. But if you were paying attention to the atmosphere at the time, you would notice a difference. Still the 2019 shift isn't anywhere near as big as the year after. 2020 is when the true shift happened.
