I would say 2012 is connected to 2010-11 since they’re all the early 2010s and we’re within Obama’s first term, the electro pop era, before 8th gen gaming, and before Facebook started to fall out of favor with teens due to instagram and snapchat’s popularity. 2012 did feel like a more refined version of the early 10s but it’s still similar to 2010-11 imo. But 2008-09 are definitely different from 2012. I don’t even consider 2008 to actually be apart of the electro pop era since electro pop was not even popular as a genre until well into 2009. Gaga and her early hits from 2008 didnt really take off until 2009 either. I think the last year to be connected to the late 00s (2009 in particular) aesthetically was 2011, but even by the end of that year the early 10s were solidified Yes, 2012 is in the early 10s along with 2010 and 2011 but 2011 caused a big transition into core 10s culture which I feel splits the early 10s into two distinct halves.
>the electro pop era
Just looking at hit songs of 2012 not only does it sound much different than 2010 hits(the electropop is basically almost a different genre than the electropop in 2010, it's much more explosive and synthy. You had a trend of artists literally using the synths to emulate dubstep in certain parts of the song(I knew you were trouble, Your body to name a few) and there is more core 10 songs and indie and EDM in contrast to 2010 holding onto the remnants of core 00s style music like RnB. The vibe is completely different, visually the music videos resemble 2015 more than 2010 as well.
>and we’re within Obama’s first term Obama didn't leave the white house though so it doesn't feel much different when he started his second term. >before 8th gen gaming Fair point. But portable gaming saw a shift with the 3DS, PS Vita and a new generation of pokemon.

"Timber" came out in the late part of that year and feels super Early 10s, probably the last electropop-rap hit. 2013 feels half and half, definitely the last year of the electropop era I'd say. I'd classify the electropop era into two halves, 2008-2010 and 2011-2013. 2006/2007 was the buildup to it with Timbaland.

"Timber" came out in the late part of that year and feels super Early 10s, probably the last electropop-rap hit. 2013 feels half and half, like 2009. Definitely the last year of the electropop era I'd say. 2013 feels very much a part of the second half of the era or the "High Tech Electropop era". But it feels very different from 2010 imo. I'd say it leans a lot closer to the high tech electropop era/early 10s than the mid 10s. The 2013 shift wasn't that noticeable to me and you still had a bit of electropop lingering over into 2014 like that pitbull song you mentioned and "selfie" by chainsmokers and most people still gamed on 7th gen.

Gaga still wasn’t a household name until 2009, even if she came out in 2008. Nonetheless I still don’t see 2008 as an electro pop year The majority of music in 2008 was not electropop but there was plenty of electropop hits on the radio in 2008 are we forgetting this was a electropop album ? Genre Electropopart popsynth-popexperimental R&Ben.wikipedia.org/wiki/808s_%26_HeartbreakAlso Charlift had this come out in 2008 as well, the song was even in Apple ads on tv at the time Also........This song/commercial was on TV every 5 min in 2008 ( yes I know Dance Pop)
Circus which came out in Late 2008 was also Electropop
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circus_(song)Also Pokerface was on the radio in Q4 of 2008

I agree, 2011 kind of felt like a transitional year.
