I never hear any recent music playing radios or public. It's mostly stuff from the 00s and 10s whilst back in those decades you always had the recent hits of the time playing on mainstream radios and being blasted in public. I'm not saying this to bash 20s music because I want to hear them play it. Has COVID kicked our nostalgia levels into overdrive mode so bad that all people want to do is reminesce the past or something?

Lol all I hear at my job is 20s music. Dua Lipa, The Weeknd, Lil Nas X, Doja Cat, The Kid LAROI. It actually gets annoying sometimes.

We're only 2 years into the decade tbf
I do think that 20s music isn't as a popular in 2021 as 10s music was popular in 2011
Can't speak for 2001 because i was literally a fetus/newborn back then, but i remember people wouldn't shut up about new music back in 2011

But I'd also bet a lot of music from the early 80s was played in 1991, same goes for early 90s in 2001. I feel like 2011 is "rare" in this case rather than 2021. The early 2010s in general were just a time where everything was new and fresh.

same goes for early 90s in 2001. I doubt people were popping on Color Me Badd, Roxette or Paula Abdul in 2001.

Covid, economic collapse, the climate crisis, nothing but constant despair, racism, bigotry, and hate dominates everything, impending civil war, etc, etc, etc. I'm an American history buff and the ONLY time I would pick the early 2020s over is the late 1850s/early 1860s. Aside from that, this is about as bad as it gets (though we are still in the early stages and it's going to get much worse before it gets better). Though the commercialization and globalization of the music industry has made this less pronounced than it once was, pop music has always reflected the times and the culture it was made in. Difficult times tend to breed nostalgia waves.

You say there is racism, bigotry and all that now but that was legit normalized before the 90s(maybe with the exception of the late 60s and 70s) and on top of that technology was a lot more primitive. We take for granted all the modern advancements socially and technologically that we have today. The early 20s is a dark divisive era but it's nowhere near say, the 50s where black people weren't even treated as humans and were segregated, lynched, etc.

I didn't know you were mulatto as well. >except for maybe the 80s. I wouldn't myself tbh. The 80s in america is basically people trying as hard as possible to emulate the 50s from what i've gathered. The pop culture seemed pretty cool though with the infancy of gaming and synth pop.

U may be right about the 80s, I was mainly just thinking about Michael Jackson when writing that lol. Don't know much about that decade.

I hear early '20s music on the radio but you're right they are really pushing nostalgia now. Heck even the early '20s music itself is nostalgia based as it is sampling instrumentals from the '80s and '00s. Everyone is on the retro bandwagon now and it's getting old. I want something new and fresh.

Terrestrial radio isn't culturally and financially relevant anyways, and hasn't been since music streaming became popular.
And I personally have been hearing lots of early 2020s popular artists throughout curated radio playlists whenever I go at the store, the gym, etc.
