I've never used Dial Up, I didn't even find out what it was until I saw it mentioned online when I was around 13 or 14. That's really interesting to hear, since a lot of people our age grew up with it when we were younger! Maybe your family did have it, but you weren't aware of it? [img alt="" src="//storage.proboards.com/6759925/images/mLMLwDrzTwZBsnabQQuI.png" class="smile"] I grew up with that dial-up sound! We upgraded to broadband in 2003, and I instantly got hooked on watching music videos on Yahoo! Music, watching naughty funny videos on Funnyjunk (:shame:) and playing flash games on cartoonnetwork.com. Haha, yeah, there was such a big difference in terms of the internet speeds between dial-up and broadband. I just asked my dad and you're right, lol. He said my mom and him always had it set up when my brother, sister, or I would use the Internet, he said we probably never heard the sound back then though. Apparently, we upgraded in 2005 or 06, I guess that would explain why I started using the Internet much more around that time.

No. I have no clue what that even is. Really? Dial-up was the predecessor to broadband internet. To go onto the internet, your computer had to be connected to the landline telephone. You couldn't go on the internet (on your computer) if you were speaking to someone on the phone.

Yes,up until I was in first grade. Back then though, I only used the internet for Nickelodeon and Neopets, and before that Nick Jr. and Playhouse Disney. Most kids back then used PCs to play disc-based games, not to use the internet. I loved the Humongous Entertainment games such as Putt Putt, Freddie Fish, Pajama Sam, Spy Fox, and Backyard Sports, while my oldest sister was a fan of The Sims and SimCity.

I think I used dial up internet around 2002-04, broadband after that.
IIRC, the dial-up connection sound was used in an NRMA radio ad at some point.

Yes, I had used it until 2004/05, but I didn't go on the internet that often back then.

I never'd had dial-up, but I do remember people talking about it back in day. I didn't get internet at home till about 2007, so I missed the dial-up wave, but I do remember those Aol-cds. Intresting that a lot of you younger guys used dial-up since high-speed internet stated being common in 2003/04 when @sharksfan99 and @1999 and 2000s Kid were in preschool.

I never actually used it but I remember going to my grandparents's house when I was 4 or 5 and hearing the dial up noises from my grandfather's computer. That sound would always scare me...

Uptake of Broadband internet was a bit slower here than it was in the United States. For instance, in the 2004-05 financial year, only 16% of people had a broadband connection. In the US at the time, 25%-33% of people had broadband internet connection.

Yes, ever since getting a home computer in 1998 all the way to 2012 because it was the cheaper option of all reasons. I'd rather pay more for something nicer that's more convenient thank you very much. I don't miss the days of waiting to connect and then have it fail multiple times before giving up and just listening to music. Or having to get off when a phone call needed to be made. Or how many times my computer would crash when on a graphics heavy page. Pain in the hind end I tell you what.
