Late 1990s or Y2K teen pop - I’m surprised teen pop lasted to 2001. Honestly it should’ve started declining in 2000 instead of 2001 which makes sense because some people were either disappointed that computers didn’t crash, world didn’t end, becoming pessimistic with the Dotcom bubble burst and the election of Bush.
Superhero movies - Nothing else can be done with them anymore. It’s the same old, same old. Just how many more Spiderman, Superman, Batman movies will we get.
Hipsters/Yuccie - It was cool in the mid to late 2000s, maybe early 2010s. Then in the mid 2010s, it got to be too much. The traces aren’t completely gone yet.
Ringtone/Snap Rap - 2003 or 2004 may have had the seed of this, but it really exploded in 2005 and lasted until 2009. One of the good things about 2009 was that this shitty trend died.
Electropop - While cool at first, fresh and innovative, it should’ve started to decline in 2010 or 2011 instead of 2012 or 2013. I prefer late 2000s electropop with the Timbaland’s urban edge.
Apocalypse, zombie, doomsday, end of the world obsession - Shows like “Game Of Thrones” and “Walking Dead” should’ve ended around 2014-2016 instead of 2019. At least “Walking Dead” will end in 2022.
Trap music - Growing popularity since 2011. Sure the sound has changed or evolved, but time for something new.

That zombie sh*t last way too long as well, it should have been dead by 2016

- 80s nostalgia. Since 1998-present - Hipster beards/patchy facial hair. 2003-present - Modern spiky hair (not classic punk)since 1994-early 2010s - Combed and rounded hair/preppy modish hair mid to late 60s-1990 - Latter 90s and Y2K techno/electronica and related sounds 1994-late 2000s (still an influence) - Modern Zombie movie trend - 2004-late 2010s - Superhero movie trend - 2003-present - VHS: mid 1970s to 2007 - Flannels since around 1981-1991 (80s punk, skater, alternative, early grunge and heavy metal fashion) then 1992-1997 (mainstream grunge and casual 90s fashion) 2007 to 2018 (hipster, yuccie, and lumberjack and common everyday fashion) flannels are still easily found in most stores - 1970s glasses frames mid 1970s to mid to late 1990s. - Post grunge and post hardcore 1994ish-late 00s/2010s (even though both first waves ended in 1997 and 1998) - Baggy pants 1989 to 2006-08 (but more 1992-1993 to 2004) - Pop punk 1994 to late 2000s. - Ipods 2001 to the present

There are plenty of music genres that did:
Traditional pop - dominated the charts well into the early 60s when it shouldn't have.
Doo-wop - overstayed its welcome and sounded super watered down by 1963.
Soft rock - the genre made many classics in the mid-70s, but by the early 80s it was a vehicle for forgettable dirge.
Adult contemporary - this genre lasted from the mid-80s to the late 90s. It never really had a great era.
Post-grunge - similarly to AC, it lasted too long: from the mid-90s to the late 2000s. Also never really had a great era.
Freestyle - it was a refreshing genre in 1986, but by 1991 the genre was just corny and bad.
Glam metal - there were still plenty of glam ballads popular in 1992 and they mostly sounded terrible.

80s throwback music. Shit started around 2016, peaked last year. I hope it goes away in the next couple years.
The Weeknd's more unique R&B music like "Earned It" and "The Hills" sound so much better than his recent throwback tracks IMO, even "Blinding Lights" with all the praise it gets.
