I believe 2021 has been a slight improvement over 2020. Sure 2021 still has COVID and all the BS associate with that, but I still like this year (not as much as 2019) and will have a soft spot over it because I began university at the start of 2021. I like that rock is coming back and fashion is becoming more 2000s inspired. I noticed a tinge of skeuomorphism coming back, coexisting with minimalism. More 2010s shows have ended. Some late 2010s trends are slowly fading. 2021 seems a little more fresh and newer. I really sensed that at the start of 2021, but more so the late part. I can't believe 2021 is almost over. In a week or less, we'll be in December.

2021 does seem a bit fresher pop culturally, but also weirdly long in the tooth. It's like a middle of the road year. I have a feeling 2020 and 2022 will be a lot different from eachother thanks to 2021.
2018 really does feel different from now.

There was nowhere else to go but up tbh. 2021 is a much more interesting year pop culturally to me. This year seems like the “real” early 20s have started. I agree 2022 will probably feel different from 2020 especially since we will have been in a pandemic for 2 years at that point

I agree 2021 has been more interesting. 2022 could likely be what 2002 was for the early 2000s, the peak early 2020s year.

These are all the changes I've noticed in 2021:
-Joe Biden is president instead of Trump. No more hearing Trump on the news 24/7. COVID vaccines make some progress. Besides that, Biden as president doesn’t mark a significant difference from the late 2010s Trump era. Trump supporters are still marching on with Maga hats for the 2024 election. 2021 is the worst year for hate crimes so far.
-Pop punk coming back (Olivia Rodrigo, MGK, etc.)
-Trap starts to move away from the late 2010s moody, emo, dark, Soundcloud sound.
-More long running 2010s shows end (Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Shameless, Last Man Standing, Iyanla: Fix My Life, Home and Family, CBS: This Morning, Highly Questionable, etc)
-Apple releases their tech devices in different colors.
-Companies change logos.
-Gen Z fashion is established. Fashion now is inspired by the late 1990s, Y2K era, early 2000s with some hints of the bling core 2000s era.
-PS5 starts to make a dent.
-Skeumorphic designs start to come back.
-Windows 11, iOS 15 and MacOs Monterey released.

Yes I pretty much agree, it took sometime for those things that first showed up in latter 2020, but didn't really do much then.

Yes I pretty much agree, it took sometime for those things that first showed up in latter 2020, but didn't really do much then. Thank you. 2020 was mostly at a standstill pop culturally. Yes those changes took time to pop. I didn’t really notice pop punk’s comeback until spring 2021, despite creeping in around late 2018-2019. The late 2010s influences had a tighter grip in 2020. They still do in 2021, but slightly weaker. 2020 was still an 8th generation gaming year like the mid to late 2010s, despite the PS5’s release that November. PS5 didn’t make a dent in 2020. I guess more people are buying PS5 in late 2021. Late 2021 could potentially be the start of 9th generation gaming. 2020 was the last full year of Trump’s presidency even if Biden got elected that November. Politically speaking, 2020 debatably leans late 2010s and 2021 debatably early 2020s or cusp. A lot of political issues from the 2010s are still plaguing us. It’s a confusing time. The only thing thing is 2020s fashion hasn’t fully established. Only almost partly as opposed to barely. Core 10s fashions, even if not as flashy as 2017, still overpowers everything. With the newer stuff, still mostly a mix of late 90s and Y2K which is mostly shoes and jeans and few other things . There’s still a lot of room with 95-97 influences and 98-01 influences.. we’ve barely scratched the surface. I think strong casual 2010s fashion influence will last another 2-3 years and maybe the last gasp 2026-2028 and 2020s fashion will be more developed by 2022-2023. We haven’t really hit on early 2000s or core 2000s fashion yet.

Duh, no way 2021 would be worse than 2020
unless there was another pandemic

Yeah honestly the early 2020s will suck with COVID cases. Hopefully, 2022 less so. I cross my fingers that things improve come 2023 or 2024. I guess that’s possible if Trump doesn’t run again.

I’ve written off this entire decade at this point. Normal life and better times aren’t coming until the 2030s or 2040s. This is a generational crisis and will define the 21st century the way the Great Depression and WWII defined the 20th. The coming years are going to be hell on earth and there’s no way around that. It’s likely Trump will run again and half the country is itching to start shooting gays, liberals, and people who aren’t Christian enough. Personally, 2021 is slightly better than 2020 but both years are still by far the worst years of my life.
