The entire decade just feels completely dull, artificial and soulless to me. Everything from it's cookie cutter safe colourless fashion to it's lack of exciting technological innovations whilst simulaneously being so technologically advanced with smartphones and social media culture that it makes life feel soulless to it's games to it's music to it's lack of fun irl trends to it's overall cultural stagnation to it's minimalistic corporate flat design. The only years i'd say are exempt from this are 2010, 2013 and 2016. The 2000s were much more wild, vibrant and cool. A lot of people hate it but at least there is a reason to hate it and also a reason to love it whereas the 10s are just completely dull and meh and doesn't polarize anyone. Hopefully the 20s will be more soulful. I already see it in the new music and the next gen consoles. I also hear skeuomorphism and y2k fashion is coming back but i'll take it with a grain of salt.

YES YES AND YES even malls lost all their color due to Simon rebranding everything, the commercials at the time lacked any effort, even flat icons and such I hated because it was like it lost everything. Don't even get me started with the soul LESS lighbulb coffee shop brown hispter aesthetic. Interior design looked like cheap cardboard at this time as well. it's been back

Vapid yes, but no lacking in pop culture. In 2009 people started hating on the 2000s but it was more so the last 2 years of the recession. The 2010s was dominated by bland color schemes ( think yeezy season) and flat icons and the worst sub culture of all time Hipster.

And in the early 90s a bunch of newspapers bashed the 80s for being extremely superficial compared to the 60s/70s. It's an endless cycle.
