I suck at embedding images. I started to see black and white checkered Vans everywhere since around late 2016 to 2018. The early 1990s sneakers first pic, LA Tech, looks badass! I'd wear those! Yeah... I did notice vintage 80s nike sneakers came back in 2004-2005, and designer or more high end adidas shoes around 2003-2004 along with very specific hip hop shoes. These kind of carried into the present day. In 2004-2005 to around 2010 or 2012 there were lot of vans designs with emoish or dark imagery like skulls or punky designs or colorful or classic skate shoes, and they were at peak popularity with converse. It really wasn't as much of a thing in 99-2003/4, shoe choices were much more limited, and it kind of toned down in the mid 2010s even though it was there to some extent. People think converse shoes is a 90s grunge thing, I would say it is more of 2000s thing, in the early to mid 90s, people wore many shoes, converse was more popular than the late 90s but it wasn't this defining grunge shoe, if anything converse was more popular in the 80s in general then among skaters, rockers and alternative kids for a while and to some extent in the early to mid 90s. I think around 2008 there was a whole industry or move towards reviving classic sneakers or styles. Puffy skateboarding shoes as casual fashion were really popular from 2005-2013. A lot of early signs of the late 90s and Y2K era shoes were shoes like this from 1994: 1993 - Beasite Boys - Classic old school adidas shoes:
