I don't believe we are in a new era yet in films so I'm talking about it like it's the same decade.
Pros
-There's been some improvements in special effects like they have reached the point where at least some degree of effects no longer look like bad CGI, but good, even if there still is a lot of crappy CGI. Aladdin and Lion King are good examples of this.
-A lot of attention to detail, costumes and atmospheric accuracy not just in terms of graphics but character choice, props, names, etc at least in a certain amount of movies compared to the 2000s films, the star wars films, as average as they are have very high attention to detail in characters and atmosphere which was was lacking in prequels and similar 2000s reboots in general.
-There has been a lot of diverse independent content, largely due to technology enabling it, and very creative film ideas which have produced a number of interesting titles, that weren't easily made compared to earlier.
- A lot of minorities, women and LGBT have a lot more mainstream films.
-Fundraisers allow cool films to have the potential to be made and streaming makes watching films easier than ever
Cons
-7 or 8 out of ten new movies always tend to suck, feel souless or feel like they ruined a franchise. It's been like this since the mid 2000s, maybe even 2003-2004 a bit, but it got worse in early 2010s.
-Film styles still have a lot of super generic traits and carryover the same mediocre film style approach of the mid and late 2000s but on steroids ex. Action,Sci-Fi, Horror, Disney etc all feels very interconnected, with some improvements or occasional good films but not enough to make cinema overall radically better as whole.
- More corporate control over films which either is restrictive or plays a role in ruining film franchises
- Sometimes ridiculous pc influences
- Bad 2000s CGI hasn't completely gone away
- Actual film is not used anymore with some odd exceptions - this matters if you appreciate film quality.
- Rental stores, cinemas, film magazines and physical movie media are dying or almost dead - leaving us with a lesser experience in some way.
- Streaming/HD/easy access to movies and lack of enough exciting film experiences plays a direct role in taking something away from the thrill of wanting to watch a new movies in the cinema and being excited about the current state of film in general. Then you have COVID restricting cinemas... its just not the same like it was.
