I would say since around the mid to late 2010s I noticed a drop in quality from good channels that first established late 2000s. By 14-2015 a lot of channels felt more corporate driven or influenced and there was an notable increase in ads, by some point like 2017 there was an overwhelming amount of click bait and politically driven material.
I think stricter rules around demonetization and censorship from 2018-2019 onwards and the aftereffects of Covid even has contributed to less activity or less interesting material. Youtube definitely feels a bit emptier and less exciting than it used to be, than 2007-2014.

Wow! I was going to ask this same question, but keep forgetting to post it lol. I’m glad you did. I’m curious about this as well. I would say the early half of 2014 was the last time YouTube wasn’t infested with political BS of the mid to late 2010s. I think YouTube was still in their prime in the early half or most of 2014. The latter half or Q4 of 2014 was when the transition to today’s YouTube began with the launch of YouTube Red that November. I’d say the transition was pretty much complete by around late 2016 to 2018. YouTube Rewinds were much better in their early years, but went to crap in the last 3 to 6 years. I see you mean. I kinda felt like 2014-2015 zeitgeist was very obama era, where pop culture was mostly left leaning and chilled out, but you definitely started to see more creeping early SJW stuff surrounding trans rights and gay marriage and to extent feminism that would carry over, in a more exaggerated way, into late 15-18. I dont remember it being over the top then, there wasn't this cartoonish aggression behind it or a mainstream right wing subculture, a think just a few alt righters, and internet groups that would peak during 2017 were just getting started then. Youtube was slowly getting more corporate between mid 2012 and late 2013 (to some extent 2011), I think 2013-2014 is when it a bit more official as a corporate platform, it felt different from 2007-2011 then for sure and things definitely changed , but 2014-2015 lots of content started really feeling very corporate and more career or money driven, and a lot of og youtubers felt like sellouts.

Slashpop, you're not lying about YouTube declining. YouTube's recent decision to remove the dislike count from its videos (something I have been meaning to talk about on here) is a horrible one. I'm so mad about it. As someone who loves how-to YouTube vids, the dislike count used to help me distinguish the how-to videos that will solve my problems from the how-to videos that will not solve my problems. All of the folks who run how-to video YouTube channels need to band together and work hard to get YouTube to put dislike counts back on YouTube videos. YouTube is just letting Tiktok kick their ass.

That pretty much matches my impression of YouTube and time-line wise. Yes 2014-2015 zeitgeist wasn’t as toxic like the late 2010s to present, but the toxicity was brewing back then, maybe to some extent the early 2010s. Around Q4 2014 to 2015 was when I first heard of political correctness, words triggered and offended being used more, SJW vs Alt Right, liberals vs conservatives, gender identity, gay marriage discussed more, transgenders, all other political issues of today. I’d say most of the stuff you mentioned about 2014-2015 were still the status quo in 2015-2016, but things were changing more with Trump entering the political spotlight in June 2015. I remember seeing videos on YouTube making fun of liberals’ reaction to Donald Trump winning in November 2016. YouTube became predictable by the late 2010s like anyone can guess right off the bat what the agenda of most videos are about. The excitement is dead. I think the novelty of YouTube was dying in 2013 and died by 2016. I think TikTok can bury YouTube into ground. More video watching sites must compete. I heard of BitChute. That video watching website has no filter or censoring. YouTube has gone crazy with censorship and hiding dislikes. I don’t remember if YouTube showed how many dislikes a comment got. I understand where you’re coming from. YouTube felt like a genuine entertainment channel in the late 2000s and the very early 2010s like just for fun. But ever since the early to mid 2010s, the focus started to shift more towards numbers and money instead of the viewer. Because of this content started declining. I noticed the corporate vibe creep in the early 2010s, more apparent in the mid 2010s and clear by the late 2010s. It got crazier when the YouTubers would start selling their own merchandise starting around 2013 to 2016 making their videos feel like commercials or infomercials. I first started hearing YouTubers saying “Follow me on Facebook, Instagram, etc” around 2011 or 2012.

2013 when they tried to shove a forced Google + subscription down everyone's throats. The platform has never been looked the same since.

2013-2014. Around the time screamer gamers like pewdiepie and markiplier blew up and Google+. The point of no return was around late 2016 when everything got completely corporate and soulless.

Yeah that's something I forgot to mention, not seeing the dislike buttons is definitely irritating in many cases, they definitely need to change this asap.
