Everyone and their mothers and their grandmothers bash on 2020 hard. But years such as 2008 and 2016 were hated for controversial but eventful things happening like the recession or trump getting elected and years later everyone props them up as great years or in some cases the last good year before everything went to shit.
Makes me wonder if people will view 2020 the same way several years from now.

Almost certainly not. Even those who were children during 2020 will probably see it being far inferior to the years before and after it. The most nostalgia I could think of is from Gen Z in like 2035 reminiscing about the Vtubers and Kpop from then.

Keep in mind people thought this way about 2016 too back in 2017 or around the end of 2016 and now it's considered one of the best years of the 10s.

I'd rather live during the 1930s for that matter than 2020. Even the worst years of the Great Depression would be preferable. And yes, 2020 will be seen as the last good year before everything went to shit. Babies being born now will come of age in a society finally in recovery from what 2020 set in motion. The decade or two we are about to live through will be seen by our grandchildren the way that we see times such as the Great Depression and WWII.

But trump literally got elected in 2016 But it took him three years to crash society. Life went on during his first three years despite the anxiety of knowing what could be coming.

But it took him three years to crash society. Life went on during his first three years despite the anxiety of knowing what could be coming. What do you mean by "crash society"? 25% unemployment, pandemic, worst recession anyone alive today has seen unless they are over 80 by many magnitudes, everyone locked in their homes, and almost every aspect of life not online grinding to a complete halt. Violent insurrection that half the country supports and the powers that be turn a blind eye to just because they are pissed off that it isn't 1955 anymore. THAT is what Donald Trump did to this country and this planet.

Yeah but in previous years you had people saying it was terrible because the recession or because trump got elected and saying at least a previous bad year didn't have X. I can see people in the next controversial year saying at least 2020 didn't have X or Y.

It's not gonna happen, we're talking about people retroactively liking 2020 That's just not gonna happen 2016 and 2008 simply don't compare to 2020 when it comes to long-term shittyness, kids 10/20/30/100 years from now will be learning about that shit year in school People might romanticize certain aspect of 2020 like how people romanticize certain aspect of WW2 But are they gonna look back and say "2020 was such a good and nostalgic year"? No, they won't say that

No, they won't say that Agree with this. People may be nostalgic when they watch movies like Casablanca or the Grapes of Wrath, but nobody in their right mind wants to live in the times those movies depict. 2020 will be viewed in a similar vein.

I don't know if I would say redeemed. People will look back on that year in infamy. COVID annihilated everything and changed the world. The George Floyd protests that happened wasn't even a good thing because it sparked so much controversy and was political across all over the news as well as all the violence that contributed to it with the protesters against the law enforcement. The world was just a living hell last year. I can, however, see this year as redeemable since COVID wasn't as bad as it was the year before and people are getting out and doing more activities that they couldn't do last year because of being quarantined for months. Hopefully 2022 is much better and can bring some light in over this virus we are all facing.
