Is this some weird sign of early '10s nostalgia? It's WAY too early if you ask me. We just started on early 2000s nostalgia and jumped multiple eras. (The song I'm talking about is Message in a Bottle).

I hope Taylor Swift's song is not a sign of early 2010s nostalgia. I hope that is the sign of an artist who is behind the times and gets backlash. We are in 2021 soon to be 2022, not 2011 soon to be 2012. She needs to get with the times or get out. IMO, early 2010s nostalgia is too early. They are 7 to 11 years ago, which is if you divide the 2010s into 2 parts by counting 2013 and 2014 as early 2010s and counting 2015 and 2016 as late 2010s. The early 2010s are not that long ago. We are barely in the early 2020s. Early 2000s nostalgia makes more sense because 2000 and 2001 are 21 and 20 years ago, respectively. 2002 is approaching 20 years ago. The early 2000s is in my mind the last retro era and feels 100% disconnected from today. The early 2010s still, unfortunately, and debatably shares connections with today.

Early 10s is getting a surprising amount of nostalgia lately. Everyone keeps blasting early 10s music where I live.

Taylor Swift is just rereleasing her catalog due to a contract conflict so she's "reclaiming" her own songs. It doesn't really have anything to do with nostalgia. She rereleased 2008's Fearless earlier this year, and will keep doing so until her 2017 album gets rereleased.
The reason why the rewritten version of "All Too Well" got so big is because it was a stone cold classic with her fans for so long and finally got a single release (and the 6 minutes new material added to the buzz).
If anything I doubt the 10 minutes rock ballad version of "All Too Well" would have been huge in 2012.

IMO the mid 2000s are the last era that feels 100% disconnected. Early 2010s are undoubtedly dated, but not totally disconnected. Taylor Swift and Drake are some artists that need to retire already. CLB was trash and "Way 2 Sexy" is literally the worst rap song of this year. Drake was great from ~2009-2015 but he's gotten worse and worse with every year since.

It was an unreleased song she wrote that was meant to go on her 2012 album. But she recorded it and released it in 2021,so it is technically still a 2021 song.
