It's something that many people don't want to admit but it's true. Music ever since around 2009 or 2010 has felt completely soulless, trashy and artificial because of autotune, vocal filters, overly processed production quality and the like. We're in a throwback era of music and even now despite artists trying to recreate the sound of earlier decades it still feels completely soulless and dull because of the modern production. Even literal ballads nowadays feel less soulful than freaking gangster rap from the 2000s. As long as music continues to sound so processed there is no room for improvement.

The issue today is that pop music is very formulaic and is almost written for the purpose of being used in TikTok videos.
What is needed is another singer/songwriter era. We had this a bit in the 2010s during the hipster era when indie-folk was popular, but with the Trump era that has mostly gone by the wayside. A new authentic rock era would also suffice (I don't consider today's throwback "pop punk" to be this since it's written specifically to invoke nostalgia for an earlier era rather than being a genuine expression of angst).
Another fact is that conservative eras of history usually produce the least innovative music.

I have trouble finding new songs I like as well, but they are out there. Here’s some 2021 songs I like:
U Are My High - DJ Snake (this one is heavily processed but I think it comes together well)
I AM WOMAN - Emmy Meli (love this song)
Happier Than Ever - Billie Eilish
I’ll have to add more later

It's time for the Chainsmokers "drop" to go as well. I think these haven't been popular since 2019 It's still the standard sound for most dance-oriented pop.
