If you refuse to see these examples then maybe you should pay attention more to pop culture Again for the billionth trillion zillionth infinitionth time, one pop punk song charted well on the billboard charts and we all know which one that was. There may be some other songs of the same genre that released this year and got an impressive number of views on youtube but there's a difference between youtube popular and hit song popular. If they were actual hits they would be getting views in the 100 millions or billions like all the other hit songs. Even hits from like 2 decades ago have more views than the songs here. It is not mainstream yet and no amount of bold text is going to change that. In general the genre is still at a subculture status. Billboard does not make everything.......... ALSO more than 1 charted on Billboard, more than 1, atleast 3 charted. Other pop artists are starting to have pop punk sounds in their music as well, also you have pop punk artists like Lil Huddy on Burger King commercials, it has penetrated culture. We live in a spotify world now, Radio is the old guard, for some reason this is not registering with you, Clearly if people keep making videos pop punk is back...pop punk is back.
Not only is pop punk back, but MGK is winning Billboard awards, and TONS and TONS of artists are playing Jimmy Kimmel Live, SNL, Ellen etc. You keep dodging all the evidence, even from random youtubers telling you it's back. You are not even listening. It's back whether you like it or not. If you are not able to decipher if a trend is back based on all the evidence you have seen in this thread + other threads, then you need to reevaluate whether you are aware of pop culture trends.

And if they were actually mainstream then those songs that are supposedly so popular on spotify would also fare well on the charts and wouldn't have such mediocre youtube views. Only one has been #1 which is impressive but every other one hasn't been anywhere near even the top 40 at least. It's a niche subculture at best. What doesn't register to me is that it's supposedly so mainstream and popular but there are no receipts at all to prove that it is.

"Over the past year, pop-punk and alternative rock have reasserted their place in mainstream music — and this year’s 21 Under 21 list reflects that resurgence, with nearly half of the artists loosely fitting that mold. In 2020, on the heels of TikTok fame, jxdn became Travis Barker’s first signee to his DTA Records label (an imprint of Elektra). “I was interested in someone his age venturing into that [pop-rock] sound,” Barker told Billboard in August 2020, emphasizing how jxdn’s social media savvy is a huge selling point for breaking an artist now. “It’s a big reason why he’s popular, but it’s one of the reasons that rock bands in general are not popular, because they don’t know how to use social media,” said Barker. “I just feel like it’s one of the things that makes an artist [today], love it or hate it.” In the last year alone, Barker has also helped young talent including Willow, Nessa Barrett and LILHUDDY land alternative and rock hits. LILHUDDY, who similarly translated a TikTok following into a faithful fan base, found fast success in the pop-punk lane — and even starred in Machine Gun Kelly’s album film, Downfalls High. After signing with Adam Mersel’s Immersive Records (an Interscope imprint) in January, the rising artist released his debut album and scored a high-profile brand campaign with Burger King.
Considering TikTok’s role in helping what was once old become new again, it’s natural that artists like jxdn, LILHUDDY and others are finding success by infusing the genre with new flavor: mixing guitars with hip-hop beats for bite-size, social media-friendly choruses.
LILHUDDY “was really a student of pop-punk,” says Mersel of what initially stood out to him about the artist. “For him, it was always about the genre and redefining what it meant to be a young person in 2020 … doing that kind of music and doing it in an authentic way that made sense for him and didn’t feel copycat or something that was derivative of something else.”
“Even though there’s this resurgence of pop-punk going on, it didn’t feel like [LILHUDDY] was making that kind of music to fit into a box,” continues Mersel. “But I think it’s a blessing because it opened the door to the sound really resonating with young people and a rediscovering [of this genre] through young people.”
" Word of mouth isn't gospel. Entertainment weekly can say theirs pigs falling out of the sky, doesn't make it the truth. People hype it up as the next big thing because rock hasn't been popular since the 00s and many people are desperate for it to become mainstream again. When they see a pop punk song hit #1 they're obviously going to go nuts and jump on the hype train. But when you look at the receipts, only one pop punk song objectively did well this year with no others being able to even get into the top 40. If they were streamed so much then youtube views and chart positions would reflect this.

I think the media overhypes the genre and might have a quicker demise just like garage rock in the 2000s.
