- COVID has made everyone nostalgic to the point where even 2019 is now the greener grass on the other side.
- The current US president was the vice president who served under Obama
- The radio and people in general are constantly playing 00s and 10s(especially the early part) music
- The common sound of the early 20s is throwback music
- Fashion is throwback to the Y2K or the early 00s
- Many new pop culture products are delayed because of COVID so people are relying on older products

Vh1 started to rebrand itself as an 80s themed chanel with 80s themed new reality shows like Surreal Life, songs like SOS by Rrihanna sampled Tainted love from the 80s. Madonna's confessions even sounded like something from the 80s directly.

The main style of early 20s music is literally centered around blatant nostalgia though . 00s music in each of it's parts has some influences from previous decades but the entire point isn't to replicate those decades. And on top of that most stuff you'll hear outside and radio isn't even from the early 20s but from previous decades because everyone is nostalgic as fuck at the moment. Like I said this has also permeated fashion with Y2K style fashion making a comeback. COVID has accelerated nostalgia to the point where people are nostalgic for two years ago which rarely is the case.

Madonna's confessions even sounded like something from the 80s directly. That song is sampling a synth line from a 1979 disco song actually: To be fair, plenty of 80s/90s songs also sample from the 60s/70s. It's nothing new nor unique to any era.

Throwback pop is definitely the primary genre the early 2020s will be remembered for. Even Ed Sheeran used it recently in his song Overpass Graffiti. Then other songs sound like the early 2010s like Taylor Swift's Message in a Bottle. Olivia Rodrigo sounds 2000s and 2010s and Avril Lavigne brought her music back to the 2000s. Kinda sad since this era doesn't have an identity of its own. Its identity is literally centred around nostalgia from previous decades especially the '80s. You are absolutely spot on in this post that this is the era of nostalgia. Covid probably helped boost it up but you ready saw signs of this in late 2019. People just don't like modern things now.

Every waking moment of the early 2020s is pure agony, and there is no hope than maybe things will be better in a few years or maybe a decade. Nobody knows.
Nostalgia is all there is because reality is pure hell on earth.

I feel like the 2010s in general were the era of nostalgia. But yes, nostalgia is still big today and has just shifted to the early 2000s instead of the 80 and 90s for the most part. When nostalgia stops being a trend, the core 2020s will start imo
