edit 2004 time frame sounds about right Yeah, it think it was more concentrated around 2004-2005 period a bit more though, second half of 04ish. You could say 2005 as a full year.

Desktops werent a majority for many years. I would say maybe late 2000s or early 2010s was when laptops beat out desktops.

Well, to be fair, back then, people used laptops only outdoors since there were no good laptops for like computer games at the time. Desktops were still very popular even in the late 2000s, but I think it would depend on where you lived and how you experienced the late 2000s. Back then, it was super rare for a child to have its own laptop. Ten years later, most children have their own laptop and even their own tablet.

In the US, laptops first outsold desktops in the retail market for a full month in May 2005, according to the research firm Current Analysis. NPD Group, which looked at revenue rather than units, saw the crossover happen two years earlier, in May 2003. www.theguardian.com/technology/2009/oct/28/laptops-sales-desktop-computers#:~:text=In%20the%20US%2C%20laptops%20first,the%20research%20firm%20Current%20Analysis. In my experience tho it is 2006 when Vista came out of the gate & Apple was pressing their new all white macbooks with intel in them
