Beginnings: 2009 - 2010 Golden Age: 2011 - 2014 Temporary decline: 2015 - 2018 Renaissance: 2019 - present
Beginnings: Minecraft came out in it's beta version. It was obscure and not well known to the public until late 2010 when Youtubers started to upload videos of the game.
Golden Age: Due to the increased presence of Minecraft on Youtube, many people gained interest of the game. Minecraft officially released the full version of the game in November 2011 and it only skyrocketed from there. Minecraft merch and references were inescapable in this period. Many Youtube careers have sprung because of Minecraft. The game peaked in 2013.
Temporary decline: Many players have moved on from Minecraft due to oversaturation and interest in other games such as Fortnite, Overwatch, and CS GO. Also, the edginess and cynicism of this era made some people perceive Minecraft as "cringey" and "cancer". I do remember a lot of inappropriate videos of the franchise that was infecting Youtube at the time.
Renaissance: The obvious resurgence of Minecraft in 2019 was because of Pewdiepie's first time playing it and the overall nostalgia with the game. New personalities have formed from the resurgence such as Dream. As of right now, it's having a real competition with Roblox, while it was popular before, it surged dramatically since the pandemic started.

I think 2011 is when it started gaining a bit of traction and 2013 is where it completely blew up

I think 2011 is when it started gaining a bit of traction and 2013 is where it completely blew up I first started watching Minecraft videos around late summer of 2011 and bought the game in March 2012.

2012-2014 felt like the golden age and 2015-2017 felt like the edgy backlash, before people became nostalgic for it in 2018 and edgelords found a new game to make fun of in Fortnite lol.
