Part 2 to my previous thread. Another trope across decades I noticed was that for the 90s to the 10s there is a female artist that debuts in the first year of the decade and tends to have some longevity, still having top 40 hits or at least still relevant in the last year of the decade
1990:
1999:
Mariah debuts with her self titled album and hit single “Vision of Love” in 1990 and still achieved at least one number 1 hit each year of the 90s. She’s pretty much the top female artist of that time
2000:
2009:
P!nk debuted at the very beginning of the 2000s in January 2000 with “There You Go” and was still putting out top ten hits by the end of the decade as well
2010:
2019:
Nicki put out a few mixtapes in the late 00s, but her official debut was not until 2010 when the “Pink Friday” era began. She was the most successful female rapper of the 10s and almost had a top 10 hit with then new artist Megan Thee Stallion in 2019
Also all of these artists were already working behind the scenes in the music industry and with other artists in the short years prior to their debut, and all had a #1 billboard hit (all of which were #1 for only a week) 10 years after their debut (Mariah in 2000, P!nk in 2010, and Nicki in 2020)
