2002 isn't notable for any major shifts. 2001 before it is however and some consider 2003 to be part of the early-mid 00s shift.
2012 was probably the least shifty year of the 2010s as well.
So, I wonder if the upcoming year will be the same. I hope not because pop culture is quite stale atm. Hardly anything original has came out of this decade.

There's no magical rule to it. The present doesn't need to repeat the past. I predict 2022 will be a shift year. Not as big as 2020, but still a shift especially a shift out of the pandemic era and into the era of "the new normal".

2012 was very different from the years before it for Hip Hop, it's when the "2010s sound" became dominant.

"Rack City" by Tyga was released in January 2012 and sounds like it could've came out in 2014 because it was the first DJ Mustard hit.

It's just a coincidence
20X0 years aren't particularly shifty either and yet look at what happened with 2020

No year follows a trend just because of the number, its just a coincidence

It's just a coincidence 20X0 years aren't particularly shifty either and yet look at what happened with 2020 "1" years are normally the shift, but 2021 ended up just being a watered down 2019/2020. I hope it's 2022.
