Like for example when Henry Cavill built a gaming PC, gamers and geeks started worshipping him because he's "one of us". Or when reddit became a shrine for Keanu Reeves back in 2019 just because he's "nice" even though any regular person being nice and giving money to homeless people wouldn't be treated like a deity. People hold the bar so low for celebrities these days and put them on a pedestal for the smallest things.

Nothing wrong with celebrities but yeah some people treat them as deities. They are human too.

Yeah, it's good to appreciate their work but, there are people that go way too far.

Some people are calling it a replacement for religion since practice has been fading in the west for decades. I didn't used to think so but once you dig deep enough into some fandoms, it is kind of looking that way. For average people, I think celebrities almost serve as an archetype, like someone in your family or hometown might in a real life discussion, and there's like a universal bond in being able to reference them. The real problem comes when those who take it more seriously are who's setting the zeitgeist.
