There was a significant 00s leftover presence that lingered into the new decade but started phasing out in autumn 2010 and it felt like we were in a new era in mid 2011. The late part of that year added the finishing touches.

2004-2008 is the best era

100% agreed, in fact, I argued in another thread that the 2010s zeitgeist truly began in this school year. I also noticed this shift as I was living through it. Here are all the big things that happened this school year

-The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Portlandia, and Regular Show all came out
-The Hub launched
-Minecraft became popular
-Mobile games (Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, etc.) became popular
-EDM (especially dubstep) became popular thanks to artists like Skrillex
-Hipsters took over pop culture
-Touchscreen smartphones (iPhones, Android) became huge
-BlackBerry begins to decline
-The Arab Spring happened
-Osama Bin Laden was killed
