Did it feel very removed when compared to 2019-2022? I think it doesn't compare since we didn't have a pandemic in the year 2000
Pop culture was changing quicker back then, that's for sure
Not as removed as 2019 feels in 2022 but pretty close, reasons why below
- teen pop dead ( Nysnc breaks up and Backstreet boys go on hiatus as well)
- Gamecube, Xbox out, Ps2 in full swing with Vice City by the end of the year
- Wrestling was in it's Ruthless Aggression era
- 9/11 came and went ( aftermath)
- The end of Fox Kids
- Avril Lavigne a house hold name
- Good Charlotte a house hold name
- Michelle Branch and Vanessa Carlton a house hold name
- Britney Spears black listed from the radio until late 2003
- George Bush
- Carson Daly stops showing up to host TRL gradually ( this was a big deal at the time)
- Ozzy Osborne is back in the spotlight with his new reality show
- Pokemon fad had been over for over a year at that point
- Von Dutch catches on
- TGIF on abc is no more
- Sega is no more as a sole console company
- Spider-Man revitalizes the super hero movie genre
- Mini Garage rock fad ( The Strokes, The White stripes)
- Bling fashion starts creeping in
- American Idol becomes a sensation
- Apple stores become more common place
- Windows XP had been out for a year and is a hit
- Micheal Jordan who announced he was retired in 1999 starts playing games as a Wizard in the 2001-2002 season
- Fox family is no more and had re branded to Abc Family a year prior
So yes it did feel like a big departure from 1999 lol, so much stuff happened in late 2001 - 2002
