When I thought of the 20s back in the 00s and 10s I thought things would be way more futuristic and we'd have things like electric vehicles, google glass, 3D printers, etc all being common. General architecture being much more futuristic looking. Instead the tech of today is basically just super sleek and efficient versions of tech that blew up in the 00s and early 10s. It feels weird saying the year is 2022 when it doesn't feel futuristic.

Maybe it's because we are barely 3 years into the decade
I'm sure January 2002 didn't feel very removed from December 1999

2015 also kinda felt that way when we reached the point depicted in Back to the Future.

2015 also kinda felt that way when we reached the point depicted in Back to the Future. I remember thinking on January 1, 2015 how futuristic the number looked. Got the feeling again in 2020 and 2022.

2015 also kinda felt that way when we reached the point depicted in Back to the Future. Never watched but I can imagine it would have felt dissapointing watching it and then 2015 being a nothingburger.

Maybe it's because we are barely 3 years into the decade I'm sure January 2002 didn't feel very removed from December 1999Thing is January 2022 feels pretty removed from December 2019/January 2020, atleast in my experience... So much has happened. I'd even say January 2020-2022 is a bigger difference than January 2018-2020. 2018 and 2021 were both nothing burger years, and 2019 and 2020 were the shift years, but 2020 was such a bigger shift.

We're talking about the 2020s feeling futuristic Does 2022 feel futuristic in comparison to 2019? It doesn't to me

And lets not forget about the Y2K aesthetic, still looks slick 20 years later I can only hope history is gonna repeat itself and the 2020s are going to be a speedy decade for technology, like the 90s and 00s

I think it doesn't compare since we didn't have a pandemic in the year 2000 Pop culture was changing quicker back then, that's for sure

Did it feel very removed when compared to 2019-2022? I think it doesn't compare since we didn't have a pandemic in the year 2000 Pop culture was changing quicker back then, that's for sure Not as removed as 2019 feels in 2022 but pretty close, reasons why below - teen pop dead ( Nysnc breaks up and Backstreet boys go on hiatus as well) - Gamecube, Xbox out, Ps2 in full swing with Vice City by the end of the year - Wrestling was in it's Ruthless Aggression era - 9/11 came and went ( aftermath) - The end of Fox Kids - Avril Lavigne a house hold name - Good Charlotte a house hold name - Michelle Branch and Vanessa Carlton a house hold name - Britney Spears black listed from the radio until late 2003 - George Bush - Carson Daly stops showing up to host TRL gradually ( this was a big deal at the time) - Ozzy Osborne is back in the spotlight with his new reality show - Pokemon fad had been over for over a year at that point - Von Dutch catches on - TGIF on abc is no more - Sega is no more as a sole console company - Spider-Man revitalizes the super hero movie genre - Mini Garage rock fad ( The Strokes, The White stripes) - Bling fashion starts creeping in - American Idol becomes a sensation - Apple stores become more common place - Windows XP had been out for a year and is a hit - Micheal Jordan who announced he was retired in 1999 starts playing games as a Wizard in the 2001-2002 season - Fox family is no more and had re branded to Abc Family a year prior So yes it did feel like a big departure from 1999 lol, so much stuff happened in late 2001 - 2002
