I imagine a lot of songs are the length they are nowadays based on profitability. There are songs from the 60's that are so quick it's almost irritating, and 70's songs that I have to skip along half way because they drag. More than the length, I suspect mainstream songs are being composed in a way now to hold interest. Collabs, beat drops, maybe if I was more knowledgeable about music I could describe it more technically, but I've been noticing this particularly in country, which formerly had a reputation for being boring.

The short length is mostly meant to be playlist-friendly on the Streaming services. Most rap songs nowadays are designed this way. I don't think it has anything to do with attention span. Songs designed with radio play for instance like ballads are still as typically long.
