This particular era is not detached with today yet. You can find differences between today and the core late 2010s(late 2016-early 2018) but it’s still too early with the 2020 vision era. Pop culturally today pretty much the same as late 2019. Even politically the early 20s can be considered an extension of the political division that started in the mid-late 10s although there's COVID now.

The timeline truly is crazy and I feel like there are 5 phases:
Fall 2018 to Summer 2019: Slow decline of mumble rap in favour of melodic Trap with DaBaby and Lil Nas X, rise of Billie Eilish and E-girl/E-boy pop, KPOP groups such as Blackpink and BTS popping in billboard Hot 100, rapid decline of EDM and dancehall, Minecraft Renaissance starts, Battle Royale game genre at its peak, Avengers: Endgame hype, end of iconic shows such as Game of Thrones and Big Bang Theory, rise of perms and colorblocking fashion. Airpods and Juul Pods become popular at this point, 8th-gen gaming is still huge, and TikTok bursts into the scene. Politically, Trump is still in office, though the economy continues to grow steadily.
Fall 2019 to March 2020: Mumble rap 90% gone from the charts, with melodic Trap and Bounce Trap being dominant at this time, Drill rap was popular for a short period, start of Early 2020s bedroom pop, Third Wave Late 70s/Early 80s disco with Dua Lipa and the Weeknd, Disney+ and the Mandalorian, and the first Impeachment of Trump. Deaths of Juice WRLD, Kobe Bryant and his daughter, US/Iran Tensions, Australia wildfires, Philippines Taal Volcano, and the COVID-19 Epidemic in Wuhan China.
March 2020 to Winter 2020/2021: State of rapid transition. COVID-19 becomes global and causing worldwide panic and economic and societal lockdowns. Culturally, still extremely identical to Fall 2019-March 2020, with the sophistication of TikTok, Disney+ still in its early stages, Melodic Trap and Bounce Trap with Roddy Richh and Meghan Thee Stallion entering the rap scene, the peak of the Minecraft Renaissance, the peak of bedroom pop and 70s/80s disco revivals, Pop-rock gains its momentum underground thanks to MGK and Maggie Lindemann, and COD Warzone is released at this time. Outside the house, the killing of George Floyd sparked massive BLM protests around the world, and Asian hate crimes increase by over 700%. Political division continues to become more and more toxic.
Winter 2020/2021 - Spring/Summer 2021: Biden wins the election with massive celebrations in the US (Except in a lot of Republican states), initial rollout of vaccines, release of the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, Cyberpunk 2077 embarrassment, and further acceleration of Disney+'s popularity with new shows. Melodic Trap and Bounce Trap are still popular with 24KGoldn, but are already declining in popularity. Pop-rock is becoming mainstream, though The E-Boy/E-Girl trend dissapears. Bedroom pop starts to change into something more distinct-sounding. Undercuts are completely replaced by perms. At this point, politics have become so divided that Trump supporters even stormed the building.
Summer 2021 - Present: Welcome to the Early 2020s. Bedroom pop has mostly changed, Pop-rock regains popularity thanks to singers like Olivia Rodrigo, Maneskin, and GAYLE, and Bounce Trap is rapidly declining. Melodic Trap, however, remains dominant, though new versions of the rap genre are being experimented as heard with Lil Nas X. Although still in a middle of a global chip shortage, more people are getting their hands on a PS5 or Xbox Series S/X which is expected to grow throughout 2022 and 2023. The world reopens thanks to high vaccination rates, and the economy continues to persevere as more people get new jobs, resume of international travel, back to in-class learning, reopening of large venues such as theatres, concerts, and stadiums. Movies such as Free Guy and Spider-man No Way Home are very successful, and Squid Game becomes a hot topic all over social media. As for global problems, there are multiple conflicts with Israel/Palestine, China/Taiwan, Ukraine/Russia, and the fall of Afghanistan. The Delta variant and Omicron variant sparked new fears worldwide, but didn't stop economies from reopening.
