1988 - First half was a bit too 80s, late 89/90 was a better realization of 88-89
1990 and 1991 - Just extensions of late 89 with gradually decreasing 80s holdovers.
1993 - It all happened in mid to late 92 or kicked off more in 1994
1994 - Changes make it more officially mid 90s a few months in and later with some incoming signs of late 90s that would stick out more in 95 but not that drastic or exciting in reality
1995 - Subtle changes in first and second half
1996 - Almost there but 97 is stronger
1998 - Strong stand out changes but more like an extension of late 97 + prototype of 1999
2002 - Based on late 01 culture
2003 and 2004 - Mostly generic early 2000s with some increasing mid 00s elements which weren’t clear yet. early 03 ( end of early 2000s)
2006-2007 : A partial rough sketch of 2008 + a repeat of 05/06
2009: Stale but expanded version of 08 then a new era but doesn’t feel special or complete enough
2010: A watered down version of 09 + a slow build up towards 2011
2012: 2011 part 2
2014-mid 2015: Few building blocks for late 10s at most
Early 2017 to mid 18: Minor modifications of mid 2010s we called late 2010s
Late 2018: Defined by drying up of core 2010s and lack of new changes
2019: Very minor late 2010s/proto 2020s changes
2020: Covid + a few changes
2021: Some solid changes but not enough
2022: A repeat of 2021 until further notice

There's smaller pop cultural shifts every 2-3 years. Major shifts like 2001, 2008, 2016, 2020 happen a lot less frequently (2016 and 2020 happening so closely together was rare.) Major shifts are the "everything changed after X year".

I am going to go out on a limb and say don't be surprised if u see some new music pop up around 2023/2024

I am going to go out on a limb and say don't be surprised if u see some new music pop up around 2023/2024 I think we'll see some pop culture changes later in 2022, even "Need to Know" by Doja Cat which charted in Fall 2021 (still charting now) doesn't sound like it could be a hit in even 2019. 9th generation consoles are finally getting some big releases this year too.

I won’t be surprised if all of 2022 is a repeat of 2021, as much as I’d like more pop culture changes to happen this year to distinguish 2020s identity. Maybe spring, summer or fall 2022 could bring more changes. I won’t give up on 2022, but I won’t hold my breath. I think between 2023 and 2024, pop culture will have more changes, which will bring clear vision to what the 2020s are about and hopefully stamp their identity official. I predict we’ll have a fall 2004 moment where everything falls in place as early as spring 2023 and as late as fall 2024, so between March 2023 and September 2024. 2024 is also when the next solar eclipse happens and shares the same calendar as 1996.  yeah I'm not saying 2022 will be huge or anything or will completely get rid of 2010s influence but I think there will be a clearer idea of where things are going to be in say 2024. 2021 had some changes but it was mostly a chill nothing burger year recovering from the shitstorm of 2020 (+ January 2021). 2022 will be more like a 2006 type shift I hope.

I am going to go out on a limb and say don't be surprised if u see some new music pop up around 2023/2024 2032 is another rat year like 2008 and 2020, so maybe that year we’ll have another 2008 type event. 2023 or 2024 could be a soft reboot like 2004. Time to pull up your legendary spring 2023 to fall 2024 forecast. 2020 was the "metal" rat, which signifies destruction. The water rat is much more optimistic. I'm hoping the 2030s are a "healing" decade.
