I feel like music finally started to differentiate itself from the 2010s in 2021. Not only is there an obvious pop punk revival in music but you can see aspects of rock music popping up in a lot of pop songs in general. Popular music right now is also very dependent on tiktok unlike just a few years prior. Late 10s pop and hip hop was so minimalist and dark, unlike the upbeat, dancey, maximalist pop and hip hop of today (Levitating, Industry Baby, Stay, Kiss Me More, etc.). Also, a lot of non English acts are regularly pushing out hits on the Hot 100 (Bad Bunny, BTS, Kali Uchis, etc.) These songs would not work in the late 2010s: Exactly, not sure why Bchris is denial, or maybe does not pay attention to pop culture, because literally Billboard.com Music uploaded a video about Pop Punk being a force lol

2020 was the best year for Hip Hop since 2004 IMO. So many classics like "Emotionally Scarred", "Rockstar", "The Bigger Picture", "For the Night", "Whoopty", "Rags 2 Riches", "Quicksand", "Lemonade" and more came out that year. Hard to believe only three years before was 2017 lol, that year had some good rap songs but it was mostly SoundCloud and emo rap (I do vibe with some of them but still). 2021 was alright for rap music but definitely disappointing after 2020. That’s a bold statement. Personally I see rap music get worse and worse every year.

I think pop punk is one of the few things that stand out along with rock like this with a neo-early 2000s garage-glam rock feel to it.
There have been a few things that sound more 2020s for sure, like many of the examples in above posts show, and 2021 definitely marks the year this became clear or stand out.
I think people are confusing some cutting edge hip hop/trap and pop, that still sounds very 2010s, with neo-futurist fashion, which not everybody dresses like yet, and imagery as defining the 2020s style. I think most of it still feels it could be pulled out of almost any year of the 2010s except for the more cutting edge 2020s fashion and imagery but the music still leans transitional and very late 2010s at most IMO, but there are a number of exceptions related to music like this and there is definitely music that sounds completely new.
Although different, I remember a few artists like Azealia banks doing stuff like this in 2014-2015, you can some futurist style+ Y2K influences mixed in:

I would say in general that is the case. 2020 however was a great year for it in my opinion, the best in many years. 2021 had some good things going as well, especially EST Gee's rise, but the year as a bit too heavy in throwback songs compared to 2020.

I don't believe any mid-2010s to present years can ever come close to 2004 LOL in terms of hip hop lol. Don't @ me. I said best year since 2004, not better than 2004 lol. Early 2000s is obv the GOAT but 2020 was better than any year in the 2010s for hip hop for example.
