I define second half of 2015 through Q1 2018 as an era of YouTube by political toxicity, SJW vs Alt Right, liberals vs conservatives, clout chasing, drama.
I think Q2-Q3 2018 was when a lot of the negatives listed above, toned down, though still prominent. I think Q4 2018 to present has been the current era of YouTube.

Current era of YouTube started with the adpocalypse of early 2017
Political division only really became a big thing in 2016, it was just bubbling under in 15 and 14

I define this era of YouTube by political toxicity, SJW vs Alt Right, liberals vs conservatives, clout chasing, drama. I think late 2014 through mid 2015 was the transition and late 2015 to present has been the current era of YouTube. I think a lot of the negatives I listed above toned down since late 2018, but is still prominent. I cross fingers that this current era of YouTube starts winding down in 2022, but that’s wishful thinking. I’m guessing the current era of YouTube will last until 2023 or 2024. Most of that alt right content has been banned and removed from YouTube across 2018-2019 and trans topics/SJW topics were peaking from 2016-2019. The tight censorship thing was in full swing by 2019. Youtube was also defined by tons of channels shutting down or struggling because of getting demonetized for unknown or trivial reasons and many people unable to provide the same content because of Covid restrictions since around 2020.

Yeah I feel like mid to late 2018 and 2019 toned things down a bit. YouTube was rock bottom from mid to late 2015 through early to mid 2018, peak political toxicity. Maybe anywhere between late 2018 and mid 2020 to present could be the current era of YouTube. I’m unsure. You bring up points that I didn’t consider. Thank you. I might change my timeline. Yeah pretty much. I feel like 2011 or 2012- mid 2015 is sort of the era when Youtube was mostly leaning towards high resolution videos, there was a crazy abundance of channels and content, it was regarded a viable a career option that could you rely on, there was a optimistic energy around it, lots of people were using it for promoting brand campaigns or their projects/side projects for the first time and heavily relying on it , the layout changed and became better, lots of more professional content and channels were in their prime.

I started making videos in that time. I remember making weird videos and actually getting good traction. After 2015 though, I had to either make sequels to previous videos, or cater to popular trends to remain relevant. Honestly looking back, 2012-2015 was an era of YouTube we really took for granted.
