Like, how can such a profane show be the worthiest to be the longest ever running show? I can get many would find it funny and all, but let us face it, some of the jokes are bad jokes, mainly offensive ones. Also, the color quality is not the complete best when comparing it to Family Guy or American Dad. Also, I feel like there are tons of better shows that should not have been outlived by the Simpsons.

Money lol It's the same as a mall owner letting the property rot instead of demolishing it, cash to collect

Simpsons didn’t truly have that long of a lifespan outside of just less than than decades worth of good content. It was basically lost it’s spark at some point in 1997-1998 and by 1998-1999 it was a nostagia machine and a mostly mediocre show relying on the glory of its older days, like Star Wars. It was overshadowed by South Park in 1997-1998 which became one of go to adult cartoons.
Peak of Simpsons as a merchandise and popular fad and one of the best new shows ever was during 1990 and 1991. Bart Simpson, in his sketchy roughly drawn original form, was the voice of early 90s rebellious kids. Almost every store had Simpsons merchandise whether it was Bart Simpsons talking dolls, bedsheets, shampoo, erasers, homemade t-shirts etc It’s one of those you had to be there to understand type moments in pop culture and a reason why that being there to experience it early on makes the time so special .
Peak of Simpsons animation, episode and script quality : 1993-1996. This a time when everyone tuned in to watch it and ever show outdid the one prior in terms of wittiness, humor and original entertainment, it never failed to impress .Pogs, cards and comics were popular but show was in its prime as the go to cartoon that reflected the spirit of the 90s.

The peak of this had to been around 95/96 with the who shot Mr. Burns storyline, this was talked about everywhere in the school yards lol I think it's the most hyped I have ever been for a cliff hanger in a cartoon lol We all thought it was Smithers

FOX milking the shit out of it. The show was brilliant in the 90s, considered by some, the greatest cartoon of all time, but it declined by the new millennium, and as slashpop pointed out, there were competitors that were edgier, raunchier, and even more biting by the early 2000s, such as South Park and Family Guy. But that didn’t matter. Fox was going to milk the show as much as they could. There were moments in the 2000s that kept the show relevant such as Hit and Run and The Simpsons Movie, the latter made tons of money upon release in 2007. The main way The Simpsons has kept its relevance in the same way as so many other pieces of pop culture nowadays: memes. There’s lots of Simpsons memes, yet you’ll notice most of these are from the 90s episodes. The Steamed Hams meme for example is based off an episode from 1996. In that regard, it’s a lot like SpongeBob. It’s well past its prime, but DAMN was that prime fucking awesome. That’s what’s really keeping it alive, nostalgia for when the show was the best damn thing on TV.
