Atmosphere wise we had no clue less than year later we would be in the mid 2000s, culturally was still early 2000s with changes. Emo was still in its early 2000s phase, it was closer to pop punk, alternative, the stereotypical emo guy with nerdy glasses and messy skater hair or someone who looked like pop punker, not a circular perfect emo swoop hair cut, metalcore/gothic music influences. overly dramatic, 13-15 years old and into dark fashion like in late 2004-2009, imo that's not even real emo, which had been around since the 80s and blew up in the mid to late 90s. You started to see a few signs of that in 2003, even a bit in late 02, but it didn't overtake the older emo until mid to late 2004. Emo music popular in mid to late 2003, still mostly the same as earlier early 2000s, earlier 2000s emo is still dominant Emo from mid to late 2001-early 2003 (still popular and the more or less the same style in late 2003/early 2004) I remember music videos in general around in late 03 to early 04 still mostly had creative and organic early 2000s big budget super elaborate creative feel or that warm and stripped down quality with a purer film look that wouldn't look out of place from 2001 and 2002, compared to stuff from 2005-2007 that felt more overly digitized, and usually not as elaborate, story-driven and atmosphere rich visually.

Great breakdown Slashpop. Is there anyway that you can provide more details over the differences between the early 2000s music videos and mid/late 2000s music videos aesthetically wise?

Other points would include, mid to late and more so the late 2000s, videos can seem simpler, more straightforward with obvious heavier digital quality/editing, sometimes colors seem darker, subdued or less dynamic or flashy than earlier but it would really depend on the video. Sometimes, across genres, music videos seem like borderline live performances or if they were recorded with very little plot or story or through a live cam in a more spontaneous or minimalist way but it's hard to generalize, this doesn't apply to all videos and it's not necessarily, not good or bad, depends how you see it. Also not everything happened or disappeared overnight at a certain point, there are also filming style and music video traits common through the decade like other eras/decades.
